Time to Vote for the September Tag
Not crazy about any of these. I am happy that there are a few types of books I don't like, since I have such a long TBR already. I don't read about zombies, werewolves and vampires. No moral objection, they just don't interest me.
Interesting choices this month. While I love genre books including werewolves, witches and vampires, I really don't like Zombies.I'm sure I can find something if Zombie wins.
And the other two are just about wide open though. I feel like either choice would result in a free-for-all, which I might just be ready for. I think we'd get either a huge variety of books or a whole lot of the 8 remaining "favorite authors".
I've been feeling a lot like a zombie this month, but I don't think it will help to read about them. It's usually easy to find books I want to read that were adapted into movies - whether I want something light or serious. Favorites will be a list of other people's favorites, which might be interesting to see. Good point Sue. Let's see what's on the lists.
-------------
I checked our favorite authors (the 8 remaining in the game) and most of their books have lots of favorite tags! (Who said literary books aren't "popular"?)
Pride and Prejudice has more than 45000 Favorites tags!
They all have books with 800+++
Atwood, King, Hannah, Hoffman - It looks like all of the first 30 books listed on the GR author's pages have more than enough tags (double check before reading).
Towles has only 3 plus a novella
Ishiguru - 9
Kingsolver - 12
Austen -11 (When did they add the books she wrote as a child?)
---------
If I Stay just got on my radar - and my libby account. It's on the first page of the movie tag list, and it has thousands of favorites tag. It's weird I never heard of it until last week.
If "movie" wins, I'll probably read If I Stay, Sense and Sensibility, The Green Mile, and Anne of Green Gables.
If zombies win I will not be joining in!
If "favorites" wins, I am going to the lists of five of you on your TBR's and I am going to choose one of your favorites. I can imagine four of five likeminded readers in this group that I really trust, and maybe see if there is a common one or two I just hadn't gotten to. Or something on my TBR. In fact, there is one that immediately comes to mind. It is the absolute favorite book of one of my patients, and its on my TBR and even out from the library. If I find it also on one of your lists, or rated highly by the group, I think that would count.
And now at 5AM I have been down that Rabbit Hole! Except for researching tags, I rarely do this. I even already voted. But now I am looking at many of your favorites..... Starting alphabetically, I have been through Book and Blues, Book Concierge and Charlotte, and already found one that Fran and Theresa both love...... And a few non PBT people whose reading style is similar. I am about a fourth of the way through an incredibly long friend list. I do hope favorites wins now. Movies, I had read many and couldn't find one that I hadn't. Zombies is out for me, as I suspect it will be for many.

ack! think I'm going to be doing this now!
ack! think I'm going to be doing this now!
Just a polite reminder - some of us will have a shelf called 'favoUrites'!
The thing about Favorites is that almost anything can qualify, we could have a record number of books read for it - or not.
I don't usually read zombie books, but on the off chance it wins, I can recommend a series that starts with #1 My Life as a White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland. It's really funny and the audios are narrated by Allison McLemore.

Good luck with the move, Anita! And wow, this is the first time in a long time I didn't have an obvious favorite just by looking at the nominated tags. I'll have to think on this one a bit...
I am with Jenny-Zombies is something I would not consider. I am willing to go over the line for PBT tags, but not that far-LoLAlso with Kate-the randomizer has not been my friend this year.
I have things on my TBR for the other 2, but nothing that makes me say more then "eh".
I voted using a modest amount of votes, but I did consider clearing out my entire cache to get zombies to win 😈

I was thinking "Maybe it is time to update that shelf."
I love the idea that Amy provided of reading each other's favorites if we get the favorite tag!!!A few of my recent favorites:
The House in the Cerulean Sea
Firekeeper's Daughter
The Grace Year
If this one wins @Amy and @Joi I'll be looking to y'all for suggestions :)
Since the beginning of the year I've been trying to read a book from my tbr pile for each nominated tag. I've found something for every tag so far. I thought zombies might be the tag to end the streak but I have one book in mount tbr tagged zombies so I'm still good whatever wins.
Meli wrote: "ZOMBIES! ZOMBIES! ZOMBIES! 🧟♀️No way it will get picked but if it does I will be thrilled!"
I think Zombie movies are hilarious! And I did enjoy the one book tagged Zombies that I have read...so...maybe...I just might throw some votes that way and see what happens!

YAY! Excited :)
Which zombie book did you enjoy?
I have 20 titles on my Zombies shelf that I have read and I have plenty more I’d like to read.I can highly recommend the Rot & Ruin series by Jonathan Maberry. It’s YA but very good. I also loved his adult book Patient Zero
Another good YA series begins with The Forest of Hands and Teeth
David Wellington has a good series called Monster Island
For a fun look at zombies there is Night of the Living Trekkies which takes place at a Star Trek convention
And for an unusual type of zombie try Hollow Kingdom in which the main character is a pet crow. Very cool look at a zombie-ish apocalypse from the pov of the animals left behind.

I will say that Hollow Kingdom and the sequel Feral Creatures are cleverly entertaining even though I don't read Zombie books.
We did books to screen in 2020 in case anyone was wondering.I just read Mercury Pictures Presents and The Only Woman in the Room which could be included in movies.
This is such an interesting threesome of choices.
I voted for zombies! I wish I had thrown my votes at it now, lol. However, as I said above, I'll be okay with any of these.Maybe I'll choose a Favorite Zombie Movie that's based on a book. LOL.

I forgot about Hollow Kingdom. It's horror but it's kind of sweet too. The focus is on the animals (not the zombies), reveling in their ability to be heroic.
Well if favorites wins, won't you be pleased to hear some PBT favorites that are also on my TBR. I also have an excellent memory, so I can tell you lots of books this group likes and probably who they are.

Meli wrote: "I voted using a modest amount of votes, but I did consider clearing out my entire cache to get zombies to win 😈"LOL! Love it!
Ann☕ wrote: "I used process of elimination to vote. Zombies. Nope! Not my jam. (Sorry, Meli and Lyn.) Favorites seemed way too open ended, though I'd be okay with it. That left Movies. ..."This!
If only I could vote...
Anita will hate me for this. but.....I think it is time to go through the tags and put some new ones in the mix. 😮(Anita's expression-hahaha!)
Maybe next year we will revisit compiling the tag list from member submissions, but one-third of the options are suggested from members, and we don't require those be from the top 300!
Booknblues wrote: "I will say that Hollow Kingdom and the sequel Feral Creatures are cleverly entertaining even though I don't read Zombie books."This is a good recommend. My book club, very diverse in reading interests, all loved the first book.
I'm surprised people don't like categories that are broad. Seems like it would open up so many more possibilities, which I prefer.
Meli The Passage is the first zombie book I came across on my tbr. There might be others lurking in there but as it took me 5 pages to find one I'm going with it.
The only zombie book I read last year I found absolutely dreadful. I post it here since those who enjoy this sort of thing will probably love it.Leviathan Wakes
Here's to the differences in life!
Meli, I think sometimes broad categories mean there is not much discernment involved in selecting a book. Read somebody's favorite might be interpreted to mean "read any book" because any book will be somebody's favorite.
That said, reading favorites from other PBT members' shelves sounds like fun to me.
Rachel N. wrote: "Meli The Passage is the first zombie book I came across on my tbr. There might be others lurking in there but as it took me 5 pages to find one I'm going with it."I'm not familiar with that one.
If, on the rare chance, the zombie tag wins I would like to finally read Pontypool Changes Everything. I have tried at least 3 times. It always starts off really compelling, but the virus in this case is language so after the first 3rd it can be quite incomprehensible as we enter the minds of the infected and the virus takes hold.
I have to say, “The Girl With All The Gifts” is a really good book - and I’d never have read it if I realised it was horror. Scared me stupid but it was worth the ride. I didn’t realise there were more in the series. I guess I *could* go there … And there’s always “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”. For favourites I’d probably look back at the PBT top ten lists for past years. Or I might reread one of my own favourite books. Or pick something from a favourite author.
Movies? No idea but there would be lots of options.
One book that keeps coming up when I search zombies is Dark Chocolate Demise which is a cozy mystery about a zombie walk (where people dress up as zombies) rather than "zombies".
If zombies wins, I'll probably read Feed or Rot & Ruin. If it doesn't win, I'm going to go with my Favorite Zombie Movie adaptation, Warm Bodies. LOL.
