WoF name: KristieI read and discussed The Guncle in the group read thread. I am the discussion leader.
I enjoyed this one, but not quite as much as I had hoped to. I found the book to be much more serious than I expected it to be. I think if I had been expecting that or in the mood for that I would have loved it, but I thought it was just going to be light and silly. It was still a good read and I enjoyed it, but I think if someone goes into it with a different mindset they'll enjoy it more.
WoF SharonBiskitI read and reviewed The Guncle.
I enjoyed the story. I am very glad that I read it on Audible because I think that ,with the exception of Grant, I was better able to enjoy the story. Several times, I laughed out loud. That being said, I was expecting the book to be a much more lighthearted read. There were definitely some themes that were quite heavy and sad. The relationship between Patrick and the children was sweet and endearing…even though he wasn't sure what to do. I did like the book, but it presented in a way differently than I thought
WoF VickiI have read The Humans with the group.
I enjoyed how it starts out hilariously pointing out contradictions in human behavior which was very funny. As we enter the plot, it gets a bit serious but always keeps the light, easy, and quick to read chapters. It was a fun read but I thought it got preachy and was kind of glad to move on from it.
WOF - JanneneI have read and discussed The Humans with the buddy thread.. I found part one enjoyable and hysterical but the rest a bit boring and painful to listen to.
I had to cringe every time they referenced mathematical terms since I’m far from a math fan.
WoF Stacy SPI read The Humans and discussed it in the relevant thread.
I found the first part very funny, after that the book seemed to become more serious whilst taking a look at what it means to be human. I enjoyed the story.
WoF AnushaI read The Guncle and discussed in the discussion thread.
I enjoyed the read, but it was very different than I expected. I enjoyed the seriousness of the issue than the humor, rather I didn't think it was very humourous. That said, I loved the relationship between Patrick and the kids, his relationship with his siblings and the handling the grief of loss.
WoF - OdetteI read and discussed The Humans in the group read thread, and am the discussion leader.
I did enjoy reading this book and especially the humour in the earlier parts. It is written in a light easy to read tone, while examining what it means to be human. Though I did find at times that this detracted from the seriousness of issues involved. Part 3 though short, appeared a bit weak and did not work that well for me.
Overall, I enjoyed the humour in this book which made fun of what all hunans do, not just an individual or group. It was an easy to read book, which kept my interest.
I read and discussed The Humans. I have read a few of his books now and liked this one a lot. It was quite funny in the beginning especially. I thought it was a sweet story overall and I didn't really mind when it got a bit preachy.
I read and discussed The Guncle. It had some humor, but was a deeper story then I anticipated. That said I found it an enjoyable and touching story. I liked how the author wrote and portrayed the children in the story.
WoF - LinkinnI read The Humans and discussed it in the correspondent thread.
I quite enjoyed this one, funny and smart, the humor is present thru all the book. Most of the humor is at the beginning of it for sure, after a wile you get a mix of serious matters and de development of the story and the humor gets a bit lost in there.
This is the second book (The Midnight Library was the first) that I read from this author, and the second one that I enjoyed, guess I need to read more books from the author.
WOF Tammy's wallI read The Humans and discussed it in the The Human's thread. I thought the book was humorous and it was very different to any books I have read in the past. FUN challenge
I read The Guncle, and have contributed thoughts to its thread. I really liked that it took some fairly heavy topics and handled them with grace and humour. I saw the path that some of it was going to take, but the ride was so fun that I didn't mind.I also read A Man Called Ove for the group theme. This was a reread of a book that I Loved! And the reread held up again, five star both times. Ove is such a wonderful, and wonderfully written, character, so loving, loyal, and principled. I loved well everything about this one, and I will have to leave it at that.
I read I read Stuff and Nonsense to fit the theme of humour listed as a genre on the mail page and discussed it.. It was fantasy about a teddy bear golem. It's style was that of a role playing game in that the golem gained various attributes as he levelled up. I didn't find it all that humourous, but that may have been my state of mind. The cat provided some humourous moments as it made Threadbare an enemy and plotted to get revenge.I won't continue the series.

After you have read your chosen book(s) for this month's group theme read, please report in the thread below.
Please state what book you read (and link it), how it fits the theme, that you discussed it (and where), and briefly summarise what you thought of the book and/or link to your review if you have written one.
If you lead the discussion, please state this in your post.
Here is an example for how to report your read:
“I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and discussed it in the [Harry Potter/Buddy Read/Other books in theme] thread. I really enjoyed the book. I watched the film first so I already knew the story line but I was surprised how much I enjoyed the book more as there was more detail involved. Plus I listened to the audio which was narrated by Stephen Fry who is a superb narrator. 4 stars.”
If you read more than one book which fits the theme, please report all your reads in the same post rather than in separate posts.
Please note, there are THREE different badges that can be obtained for group reads. Those reading and discussing one of the two chosen group reads will receive a colourful badge similar to those for previous group reads. Those reading and discussing any other book in the theme will receive a stamp. The discussion leader for the two chosen group reads will receive a badge stating they led the discussion. Maximum amount of badges you can receive for the group reads is TWO - one for the chosen group read/discussion leader and one for any other book in the theme.
In order to receive a badge you must:
1. put your Wall of Fame Name at the beginning of your post as follows: WoF Name - Peggy
2. have read the book(s) before or during April 2022.
3. discussed it in the relevant thread. Discussion must be more than "I read the book and I liked it". Discussion requires something more substantial and analytical of what you read, for example, thoughts, opinions, impact it had on you, what was your favourite part, was it what you expected it to be like etc. You may also like to review the book and post a link to the review in that thread.
4. Report that you have read AND discussed the book
