DianeMP | 534 comments Andy Weir has written another highly entertaining book with a resourceful main character that finds himself far away from home, in a very desperate situation and has to science the hell out of it to save the day. Yes, there are some similarities to The Martian, but the stakes are much higher and the book turns into an unexpected buddy comedy later on.

I've been putting off writing this review. The way the book is structured makes it hard to write much about it without spoiling it. The main character, Ryland Grace wakes up without knowing who he is, where he is, or why he is there. He must then figure all these things while a second timeline fills in the backstory for the reader and we learn how it got to this point. The story is a little slow to get going. But after a couple of chapters, it becomes another wonderful adventure.

What makes both this and The Martian great is the humor, the author's love for science and equations that is infectious, his gift for explaining scientific concepts and making it a fun adventure instead of tedious technobabble, the optimistic outlook at what humanity can and will do when when we put our minds to it and work together.

I highly encourage anyone who has not read The Martian and/or Project Hail Mary to do it. You won't regret it.
