I'm looking for a book I read when I was 12-13 (so it was written before 2016). The young girl feels ignored by her family who is struggling financially. I think there's even a little part about how the monsters give her a bucket as a crown because she's their queen? I believe this book takes place during the 2008 housing market crash because one of her parents was a realtor. She also has a little brother who she took trick-or-treating in one of the "chapters" and makes a couple of friends in the story. I also recall an innocent romance between her and a boy. In one scene they both eat an apple together and near the end, she wins a writing contest. I think the title has the words "monsters" in it but I can't be sure cuz I read it so long ago. I've already looked around Google for 3 hours and asked Reddit.

I feel like I remember so much and so little at the same time😭😅
