Welcome to Team Neverwhere!
I'm Deanna, your captain for this round of UNO. I've enjoyed playing/captaining UNO for a few years, and I can't wait to get started! I live in Virginia and love reading fantasy, science fiction, mystery, and thriller genres.
Please introduce yourself with as much or as little detail as you are comfortable with and include a link to your UNO shelf.
I've added the rules and a list of our February cards in the posts above. Please read through the rule, and let us know if you have any questions. Remember the most important is: Have fun!
Hi all, I'm excited to be a co-captain for this Uno. This is my fourth uno and it's always one of my favorite ways to kick off the year. I'm from Oklahoma and recently moved to more rural western Oklahoma when I married a farmer (it's been an education for sure). Between us we have two kids - a freshman in high school and a 3rd grader - a lazy, hairy beast of a dog, and two cats - who mostly get along. I work as an educational program director in Oklahoma City.
I enjoy historical fiction, literary fiction, and a good mystery/thriller. I read quite a variety of non-fiction too but those usually take me longer so I don't tend to read them for challenges. Excited to be doing this challenge with you all!
Hi Team!I have participated in UNO for a few years, and was co-captain last year. I live in a suburb near Des Moines, Iowa, and work at the public library. I have been married for 25 years, and we have a Junior in high school and a senior in college.
I'll read just about anything that someone recommends, but my favorites are mystery, sci fi, fantasy, and young adult. Working at the library gives me a great inside scoop on new books coming out, and access to many, many books! It should be helpful when searching for those color covers!

Welcome Jennifer! I went to college up that way (well a little to the west) and have a lot of family in the Des Moines area. I've always enjoyed our visits up there.
Hi all! My name is Shan and this is my first round of UNO here. I've done it in some form elsewhere, but nothing quite like this, so I'm extremely excited to get started. I'm fairly new to the group, so unless we are in other groups together, I'm most likely new to you too.
I'm not very talkative in the thread, but I will be reading for the challenge (I'm always reading or listening to a book), and if I have a problem or questions I will definitely speak up.
Personally, I'm married this year will make our 21st wedding anniversary, although we've been together (this year) for 23 yrs. We have 4 kids, who are no longer children: Our son (from my previous relationship) is 26, 3 daughters who are 21, 19, & 16.
I work full time in HR for a local company and I love what I do even though it's been driving me bonkers since last year.
I absolutely love to read. My love affair started as far as I remember when I was 8 yrs. old, but my cousin always says I was always with a book (even longer than that).

Hi Kate! That's cool, which college was it? I went to the U of Iowa, and my husband went to Iowa State. Looking forward to playing Uno with you!

Hi Shan! Welcome to Uno. It's a lot of fun. Great way to meet other readers and read some books you maybe wouldn't normally choose. I love trying new things, do you?
Hi everyone! This will be my 5th year doing UNO. I'm Excited to get started! I'll read just about anything, butmy favorite genres are fantasy, historical fiction and literary fiction.I live with my husband in Kansas City MO, but am originally from Western New York. I work night shift as an ICU nurse, so you may notice I keep some odd hours at times!
Hi everyone! My name is Sharon and I've been doing UNO for a couple years now (I lost track of how many). I live in Northeast Pennsylvania with my husband of 10 years and our dog, Millie. Professionally, I am the director of our local Community Foundation.I love to read but found I haven't had as much time to do it lately. These challenges really help me get into books and make time to read.
I sent you all a friend request if we weren't already friends. Looking forward to being on this team with you!

Creighton! - in Omaha.
Hi everyone, I’m Keri and this is my 6th UNO challenge!!UNO was my first ever challenge on goodreads and it still remains my favorite!!
My favorite genres are mystery/thriller, fantasy, and YA but I also read many other genres when in the mood!
My boyfriend and I live in Ohio with our border collie Luna and I work in mail order pharmacy, so we’ve been pretty nonstop for the past couple years since covid took over!!
Looking forward to being on this team and I’m off to go hunt for color cover books!! That’s one of my favorite parts of UNO finding those :-)
I’ll post my shelf link when I get to work and a computer rather than my phone.
Hi everyone! My name is Heather and this is my 3rd year of UNO. I can't wait to start! I live in Arkansas with my son, two cats and a dog. I am fortunate to work in HR from home, so my lack of commute time gives me more time to read.
I will just about anything, but I am not the biggest fan of sci-fi.
When do you want us to start signing up for color books? I have two on my Kindle that may work for two of the blues cards for February.
Our card list for February is already up.💞February Cards💞

Deanna wrote: "Since we have so many Reverse cards this month and just to get to know one another better let's talk books. Generally speaking, what are your favorite books? Good call - with so many reverses getting to know our reading preferences is a good thing! I'm a pretty diverse reader, will really try anything or any author, but my favorites tend to be in literary fiction and historical fiction with a little romance, magical realism, and fantasy thrown in. I'm also a non-fiction reader, but didn't add a bunch of those. Favorite authors:
Ann Patchett (literary fiction)
Diana Gabaldon (historical fiction, romance)
Liane Moriarty (contemporary, mystery)
Emma Donoghue (historical fiction, literary fiction)
Curtis Sittenfeld (historical fiction)
Colson Whitehead (historical fiction, literary fiction)
Stuart Turton (historical fiction, mystery/thriller)
Kristin Hannah (historical fiction, literary fiction)
Silvia Moreno-Garcia (historical fiction, horror)
Ken Follett (historical fiction)
Bill Bryson (non-fiction)
Malcolm Gladwell(non-fiction)
Favorite Series (not written by someone above):
Hounded (Iron Druid Series)
A Discovery of Witches
The Girl in the Castle (Deverill Chronicles)
No Angel (The Spoils of Time)
Favorite Book of all time - The Night Circus
I will be reading
, which looks yellow to me, TinEye says 40.2% so I'm not sure if it will work but it fits "3 Yellow"I also can take "8 Green" with
, since the MC is named Emily
Deanna wrote: "Since we have so many Reverse cards this month and just to get to know one another better let's talk books. Generally speaking, what are your favorite books? I also subscribe to a few book boxes so I tend to read a lot of newer releases across different genres.
I can cover green 8/Wild draw 4 with The Gilded Wolves
I will be reading
Keri wrote: "I will be reading

It has to be over 50% of the color to count, so Reckless Girls won't work unfortunately.
Deanna wrote: "Since we have so many Reverse cards this month and just to get to know one another better let's talk books. Generally speaking, what are your favorite books? It can be individual books, series, or ..."I feel like this is always such a hard question! I generally read a lot of literary fiction, "chick-lit," historical fiction, memoirs/biographies, mysteries and thrillers. I don't usually read science fiction or fantasy, but my husband is a huge fan so he's gotten me to read some (I enjoy the Harry Dresden series).
Some of my fave authors are Elin Hilderbrand, Janet Evanovich, Liane MoriartyDorothea Benton Frank, Susan Mallery, David Sedaris, Jenny Lawson, Kristin Hannah and so many more I'm probably not remembering.
Kate, looking at your list I feel like we probably have a lot of reading in common. I like a lot of the authors you listed.
Deanna wrote: "Since we have so many Reverse cards this month and just to get to know one another better let's talk books. Generally speaking, what are your favorite books? It can be individual books, series, or ..."My favorite genre is Romance, once upon a time my favorite book was Little Women, but I haven't read it in years.
Other than that I have tons of favorites books/authors.
My one clicks recently have been: Kristen Ashley, Devney Perry, Vi Keeland, Karen Marie Moning, Penelope Ward
I also love Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, Tessa Dare, Lisa Kleypas, Darynda Jones, Brittainy C, Cherry, Mariana Zapata, Willa Nash (pen name of DP for KU), Piper Rayne, Lani Lynn Vale, Nora Roberts, Max Monroe, Eden Finley, Talia Hibbert, Teagan Hunter, Helen Hoang, etc...
I've recently started falling for Melanie Harlow, Ilsa Madden-Mills, Leisa Rayven, Roni Loren, Kristen Callihan, Chloe Leise, Abby Jimenez, T.L Swan, etc...
This list would be too long if I keep going, since I "meet" and fall in love with new authors all they time.
So....Romance in almost any variety/sub-genre and I also will read bios/autobios, myster/thriller/suspense, ya fantasy (not much for romance amongst the younger set if that's all its about since I like my spice, but I definitely will do new adult romance)
Shan ~A~ wrote: "Deanna wrote: "Since we have so many Reverse cards this month and just to get to know one another better let's talk books. Generally speaking, what are your favorite books? I went to see it with some some book club girlfriends and we though it was really good!
Sharon wrote: "Deanna wrote: "Since we have so many Reverse cards this month and just to get to know one another better let's talk books. Generally speaking, what are your favorite books? It can be individual boo..."Same! We definitely overlap. Going to look at your books today and pick out a few.
I always tried to read Little Women at Christmas-time, didn't this year but for some reason there is something about that time of year and snuggling into a blanket with the fire going and re-reading it. I liked the movie but didn't love it - went with a few friends of mine as well - it's actually the last movie I saw in the theater until just recently when we took my step-son to see Spiderman.
I vote yes on Reckless Girls being yellow - we've moved away from using Tin Eye (although I still do in general) since it can be so specific and more towards judgement calls but we can always ask too. And I've read
so if we have another 8 Green this will work for a reverse too. Read all three in the series and they would work great for blue, yellow, and green if someone likes contemporary romance - pretty short and sweet. I will work on covering some of these reverses to begin with - planning to read
and
. Work for some others too but at least we will have some of these duplicates knocked out if we need.
Kate, I always try to read Little Women at Christmas as well. I missed this year. Just too much going on.
Kate wrote: "I vote yes on Reckless Girls being yellow - we've moved away from using Tin Eye (although I still do in general) since it can be so specific and more towards judgement calls but we can always ask t..."I will still be reading Reckless Girls, so if we decide it does count for yellow we can use it :-)
I did think we had veered away from TinEye in the past couple years also, but like you said I use it for kind of a guideline also. Just let me know.
@Kate, it’s funny you mention it because I have been saving the Well Met series for UNO because of how well they work for the colors lol. Every time I think of reading them, I’m like “oh I’ll wait for UNO time because these all fit colors so well” haha
I’m struggling to figure out what to suggest for looking for reverses from my shelves. I read a variety of types of books and there’s a little bit of everything.I’ve read a good amount of celebrity memoirs
For authors where I’ve read a good amount of their books whether in the past or recently, Harlan Coben, Linwood Barclays, James Patterson, almost all Sophie Kinsella’s books, Ruth Ware, Kara Thomas, Cassandra Clare, Riley Sager, Kristin Hannah, Jodi Picoult, to name some.
I can keep an eye out on what people plan to read and let you all know if I’ve read any if that helps.
