Michelle Hanson (michiness) | 56 comments I think it may have taken place in Poland but I'm not sure. The book describes how soldiers started knocking on people's doors asking for the children, implying that they were going to take them someplace safe or to a doctor but they were actually taking them away to be killed. Eventually someone came up with a plan to hide the children in a cemetery in freshly dug, empty graves. I read it all in one night, so it seemed to have an almost dreamlike quality to the story that might have been the prose or might have been my sleep deprived brain. I read the book sometime between 2001 and 2010, it seemed fairly new, and the blurb on the back of the book or the inside cover mentioned the hiding in graves. I've looked through the YA Holocaust lists and nothing looks familiar so far

The Key Is Lost?

In the Company of Angels?"

None of these seem quite right, I think the book had more focus on the community, the people in the town or ghetto trying to figure out how to protect the children until someone volunteered to start hiding them in the graveyard for a while

I'm going to check out Yellow Star. I definitely remember reading a book with that cover. I thought it was one I read pre-2000 but I see it was published later than that. Will report back!
