Janice (jamasc) | 60156 comments Help/Discussion: Site 17, Giant Dog and Taxi Cab, New York, New York, USA

1. Location: New York, New York
Read a book set in New York City.

2. About: Unveiled in July 2018, Spot the Dog is a 38-foot-tall statue of a Dalmatian puppy balancing a real New York City yellow cab precariously on its nose. The dog has a playful grin and golden toenails (Spot is a she). The taxi cab is wired so that its headlights illuminate Spot when it gets dark. When it rains, the cab's wipers turn on.
Read a book with headlights prominently on the cover.

3. Souvenir: Dog Bone
Read a book with Bone(s)in the title.

The key word is "prominent", and these headlights are not prominent. Sorry.

K. How about this?
Hell's Highway by Gerri Hill

message 5: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments Or if I can find the hardcover instead of the paperback which has the car from the front instead of from behind will that work?
Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh

message 6: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60156 comments Both of those options are better Katrisa. While they aren't large, the light shining from them really emphasizes them.

message 7: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments I guess I'll just wait and see which cover my library has!

message 8: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments the hell's highway one I just happened to notice while scrolling through the books they added to audible's cyber Monday sale and it was only $3 so I'll probably get that for a backup

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments For books with Bone(s) in the title, almost all of the Body Farm Series books by Jefferson Bass do.

If you are there in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, here is one. An Echo in the Bone,
this is book #7.

The first book in The Mortal Instruments series is City of Bones. This is the first one to read for the Shadowhunters Chronicles by Cassandra Clare.

The first Nora Kelley series book is Old Bones.

The second book in The Unwanteds Quest series by Lisa McMann is Dragon Bones. If you are looking for plenty of 1st-in-series books just type "Dragon Bones". ;o)

#1 in series and title is Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

The second book in Nora Roberts's Chronicles of The One is Of Blood and Bone

The fourth book in the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs is Bone Crossed

And last, book #5 in the Penn Cage series by Greg Iles is The Bone Tree

Oh, thanks, Peggy. This book is up next for me for this series, and I actually happen to have this very book, with this very same cover on the shelf right next to my desk. ;o)

message 18: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It's next up for me too. I was meant to read it for the museum challenge but at the last minute found another book to fit the task I wanted to use it for. Yay for me!

Janice (jamasc) | 60156 comments Re: About - Headlights on cover. I was just scrolling through today's Kindle deals, and noticed Dead of Winter
Dead of Winter (August Snow #3) by Stephen Mack Jones

It's $1.99 today, and who knows what price it will be tomorrow. It's also book 3 in a series. But, it's an option.

Sorry, you don't see the headlight at all, just the light from them. In the examples above, you could also see the headlight.

You can't see the headlights at all. There is light which is presumably from the headlights, but that's just an assumption. It might just be cover design. Sorry.

The side part is that the same image, without the title, appears on the spine, and the headlights are really visible...

Hé! We win some and we lose some... ;) back to the drawing table

Wanda (wanda71) The Last Tiara

This book has a dual storyline. The modern line is set in New York. Would it be acceptable for book set in New York?

message 42: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It is if more than 50% is set in New York. Most dual timeline stories I've read were set more in the past then in the present though.

I'll accept it. I've been more lenient on the "predominant" criteria because it's hard to find a cover that fits. So cross out that word for this task.
