When you rule the world of powder mages you can do what you want. Brian McClellan wields his powder for good. In addition to delivering us the complete Powder Mage trilogy with the third book Autumn Republic, Brian is going to bring us a second trilogy in the same universe, all while growing his own spaghetti sauce and keeping bees. Impressive. Most impressive.

...and that was the moment I fell in love with Veronica.

Joanna Chaplin | 1175 comments Based on his oblique reference to a character he loved getting killed off, I suspect that Brian McClellan dropped the Star Wars novels at about the same point I did.

Isn't that kinda what Jeff VanderMeer did? Also (snark) someone should inform Patrick Rothfuss of this new trend (/snark).

Trike | 11265 comments Didn't Rothfuss capitulate and publish a "that'll hold 'em" book that's about the same length as each of Vandermeer's Southern Reach books?

message 10: by Michael (new) - added it

Michael (michaeldiack) | 96 comments Good podcast! Although I must admit I haven't rushed out to buy The Autumn Republic yet despite reading Promise of Blood and The Crimson Campaign.

Actually now that I think about it, Annihilation and The Slow Regard of Silent Things, both have a dreamlike quality describing a strange and possibly unworldly place and an unusual point-of-view character who I didn't really understand. One was more pleasant than the other.

And both really care about their prose. Interesting parallel.

But @Trike, the second and third books of the trilogy are somewhere between 300/400 pages. So nowhere near novella territory.

Kristina | 588 comments I got my hands on Autumn Republic and can't put it down. I feel like each book is better than the last!

Oh. I saw them at the library and they all looked about the same size.

That actually makes me want to read the 2nd and 3rd books even less. I was on the fence at 190 pages. 300? Probably not.
