There was a lot of action in this book, but it didn't rope me in like the others. I'm not sure why, but I wanted more even though I don't know what that more is right now.
I liked it, a lot. However, there was no way we could deduce the who or the why. There just weren’t enough clues. Still interesting, though.
I wasn't crazy about this story. I thought the plot was a bit over the top. We went from arresting Bachman for a series of murders in the first chapter, to Max believing that he had a partner helping him. So, she proved he had a partner (Cole Baker), but she learned that there was another person torturing her (Duvall), so we added another villain to our story. When we got to the end, we added yet another bad guy (Ava) to the plot. I thought it was a little too much.
The "why" blew me away. I never would have guessed Duvall's reasons for targeting Max. I was an elaborate revenge plot and so many innocent people died.
You're right Robin. I think Marson's did a better job with Alex and her crew of helpers. This was a little weaker, but I still liked it. It did make me rethink my stance in another book we read, where the shrink and the patient got together. Psychiatrist can control the brain of their patients. They need to be more careful with relationships outside their practice.
The why took me by surprise too Anita. Duvall's plan was years in the making.
It took him two years to exact that revenge. You’re right about a lot of people dying for him to get his “payback.” I guess he thought they were just collateral damage, including his “partners.” He certainly sold Bachman down the proverbial river.
