Hello Readers!
This is the Pre-Read thread for the August 2021 Modern/Popular selection. This month we will be reading The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller.

Please note that this is a SPOILER FREE discussion.

Who's planning to join in on this read? What other books have you read by this author? What are your expectations in reading this book?

toughmittens (wesley_reads) I have thought about reading this book, for some reason haven't gotten to it. Everything about it tells me I should like it. I will definitely be reading it in August.

message 3: by Grace (new)

message 8: by JoJo_theDodo (new)

JoJo_theDodo I've read Circe by this Author and really enjoyed it. I'm honestly trying to decide between joining this read or the Anne of Green Gables read for August. I'm leaning toward the classic, just because I feel the need to catch up on reading some classics that I have never read.

I read it some time ago, and I won’t be re-reading it, but will definitely be following/joining the conversation.

Quinty (Taylor's Version) (queenq) | 283 comments I read it in 2022 but I'm planning on re-reading it to see if my opinion has changed

I loved Circe, so my expectations are pretty high for this one!

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) | 695 comments I liked it, but I was at first not sure if I would since after a couple of chapters, I realized it was more YA and not much like the extremely high-end and complex Homer’s The Iliad.

message 19: by Jan (new)

Jan Z (jrgreads) | 419 comments Circe was painful for me. I do not like mythology so I will pass on this one.

message 20: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh (ashleighbailey) | 39 comments I struggled with Circe. I am going to try and read a fiction mythology by another author and see if it wasn't the genre that I disliked.
