1998
I read this a few years back and really enjoyed it. The world building was very inventive and there was a lot of action and intrigue.
I nominate Replay by Ken Grimwood. I haven’t read the book but its average Goodreads rating is over 4 stars. My Goodreads friends have given it 4 and 5 stars. That is intriguing the heck out me for my impression is that the book is not as well known in the science fiction community. Maybe this book is a hidden gem?
I'll nominate Wild Cards edited by George R.R. Martin (1986). It's half a dozen or so short stories, each by a different author, set in a universe that Martin oversaw. After WWII, a virus has infected mankind & given some wild powers while it just killed or mutated others. We haven't read any of this series yet & I think we should since both the stories & the authors have been very influential on the genre. This was published the same year as "The Watchmen" comics came out & there are a lot of similarities. Besides that, they're a hell of a lot of fun & it's been far too long since I last read them.
I nominate Dawn
by Octavia E. Butler
(1987)
I have not read this book but it has been on my list for some time now. It has an average goodreads rating of 4.13 and promising reviews. Readers describe it as a complex story with very alien aliens.
Sundiver by David Brin, originally published in 1980. I have this book in my TBR list for years, in order to check the whole series, which got several SF awards
I just finished Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis trilogy, that starts with Dawn, and can recommend it. I second Sundiver.

Second that.
That leaves Wild Cards edited by George R.R. Martin, nom by Mod Jim
Dawn by Octavia E. Butler, nom by Rouven
as nominated, but not seconded.

OK. I'll second Dawn. But I don't know what I'll actually vote for.
I like Octavia Butler, but I have a different book of hers that I plan to read before Dawn.
