 Meghan Loves M/M (mm_reads) | 27 comments Hello,
Can someone please make these adjustments? There have been some revisions to a few companion books. The hosting for these books was moved from Google Drive to the author's website that he needed to upgrade for hosting.

Also, the author name for the the new entries is slightly off. They currently have the author name KD Edwards.

All of the books listed below are written by K.D. Edwards

Here is the full list of existing book pages in order:
Series page: https://www.goodreads.com/series/2257...

Series name: The Tarot Sequence
1.0 The Last Sun

1.5 The Sunken Mall* newly added hosted from author's website
-- cover file from author's site: http://kd-edwards.com/wp-content/uplo...

2.0 The Hanged Man

2.5 Scenes from Quarantine* newly added hosted from author's website
-- cover file from author's site: http://kd-edwards.com/wp-content/uplo...

Much appreciated!

Edit: Added series page link, oops

Meghan Loves M/M (mm_reads) | 27 comments Thanks for adding the covers and the info, but for the second part, ummm what?

The Sunken Mall is a 90+ page novella containing a single story- as in a single, continuous, unbroken development of a plot, adventure, resolution. It is written by the same author of the main books. The books are now all hosted on the author's official website. They have always been freely and publicly downloadable. There has been no email or login needed to get the link or access them for at least the last year (although I'm not sure about initially).

Someone put out a staff notice about it? Really? Speaking mainly about "The Sunken Mall", someone has expended a lot of effort repeatedly wiping it off GR since January 2021, and other people have repeatedly re-added it. So this is not for the benefit of readers, and it doesn't seem like it's truly related to GR rules at all. With this last development, as a reader and consumer, it absolutely looks like a homophobic/anti-LGBTQ campaign. I don't understand the outcome the Goodreads/Amazon is expecting from this approach.

What specifically warrants a notice to the staff? A lot of effort has been spent by the author (and I) trying to meet all of GR's rules & strictures, which keep changing or are only given out piecemeal.

Indie authors often don't know all the marketing ins-and-outs and shouldn't suffer the catastrophic penalty of having their book (even if only a novella) along with hundreds of ratings and nearly a hundred written reviews just summarily deleted.

Not to mention as a reader, if I wrote long reviews, it would be shocking and infuriating to have my review disappeared.

Regarding Twitter involvement, is Twitter no longer allowed as a space for authors to use to announce their books? So if an author did it and then undid it, would you still ban the book? That's deeply concerning on a whole other level.

Is it a matter of the books being in a section called "Extra Content"? Someone must have taken the time to check the site, so a couple minutes more and they'd have been able to send a short note to the author. If he fixes it now, will the book be "allowed" to be part of the series page?

For the number of regulations GR is now requiring from entrants, the GR's own guides and rules are extremely difficult to navigate and interpret. It's like needing a plumber but only being able to drop a phone book on the table, hope it lands on or near the right section, and hoping the entry has useful information.

It's just so bizarre.

SparksofEmber | 40 comments It wasn't a staff announcement - there was a librarian's note under the series from April 17th, back when the books were considered ineligible to be on GoodReads due to hosting concerns. The note linked to the current Librarian Announcement regarding treatment of non-books.

But since the books are now hosted on the author's website, they should be fine on Goodreads in general and on the series page so I have added them and updated the librarian notes in all three areas. (see this discussion: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...).

There are hundreds, if not thousands of librarian volunteers and this particular situation was complicated with a long back story. It took me an hour of hunting to find all the different discussions and trace the history of what had happened, when, and why.

 Meghan Loves M/M (mm_reads) | 27 comments Hi!
First, thank you very much for taking the time to trace the history AND make the updates. I really appreciate your efforts, and the author is happy as well! Goodreads keeps adding and changing policies, and hasn't made it easy for Librarians, members, readers, or authors to keep up.

In January 2021, when the page was first removed without notice, this particular book had over 80 written reviews and nearly 400 ratings permanently deleted along with the book page. https://web.archive.org/web/202101021...

I would have thought a book like that would warrant at least a notice to the author and reviewers if not a review process before a permanent deletion. It's quite sad, frustrating, and disappointing that established book pages with many reviews and ratings can just be summarily removed due to small problems with no chance for remedy.

Anyway, thank you again!

SparksofEmber | 40 comments They shouldn't be in the future. As mentioned in the linked discussion I posted above, the Librarian Manual has been updated "to ensure that review content will be preserved if there are similar gray areas going forward."
