The Death of Harry Crow, by Leith MacArthur. This book has a great original concept. Which makes it difficult to review. How to praise it without giving away its secrets? I’ll start by saying although it’s part of a series I didn’t miss out by not reading the preceding installment. The book stands on its own. The characters are well-drawn, as are the settings. I have travelled the Maine coast up to the Canadian border, and it is rugged beautiful terrain. The Pebbles is a distinctive setting to host the violent climax, with a fortress set in granite fit for a Bond villain. The story is inventive and quirky and provides a fast-paced ride through a psychotic mind. If you enjoy dark tales that keep you guessing, you will enjoy this book.
