First thing’s first … this isn’t a diary despite what it may say on the cover. It is a journal. Now, Greg Heffley is going to be famous one day but right now he’s in middle school trying to survive it. Greg’s journal takes the reader though the school year and lists Greg’s daily life activities in school and around the house. He explains his problems and how he sees things, and how he would change things to his liking. He explains the rules of the house, why he gets in trouble when he does, and the rules to his friends Rowley’s house too. Greg and Rowley’s adventures are wild, like the time when the Cheese Touch was a thing at their school, how Greg tried to run for Treasurer, how at Halloween, he and Rowley tried to make a haunted house, how they went trick or treating with Manny (Greg’s little brother), how they were hunted down by a truckload of teenagers, How their school did a wrestling unit of six weeks, How Greg tried to pack some muscle on his body for this unit, how the winter play went at their school, how Greg’s and Rowley’s Christmas went, how Rowley broke his arm, how their safety patrolling days went, how they tried to make the biggest snowman in history, how they tried to make a comic and Rowley got all the credit, how Greg tried to have a sleepover with Fregley to get Rowley back to being his friend again, how Greg tried to get on his Class Favorites page in his school yearbook and finally how the gang of teenagers who hunted them last Halloween made Rowley ___ the moldy cheese that started the cheese touch last year.

I love the Diary of a wimpy kid series because Greg goes through a lot of things that are funny and other kids may or may not have gone though. Greg explains what it is like to be a middle schooler and emphasizes on the desires that middle schoolers have, like being a Class Favorite or not trying to hard to become cool. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid is obviously an absolute classic for any American Kid and as someone a bit older I feel looking back it really details the flaws of American life, both junior and upper. The book does a superb job of covering, looking back, Greg's obvious entitlement and narcissm, and making us support him.
