I've already finished - this is my favourite of GH's Regencies - which means it is my favourite Regency of all time!I think I have probably read it at least 60 times - three times since being on GR.
Here is my cover
Not too bad.
I’m sorry I haven’t been able to participate with this group for a while, and it looks as if that’s going to continue for some time. I just got accepted into a historical fiction workshop that’s running from mid-April to the end of July and it will limit my reading time. Catch you all on the flip side!

Post updates (if you can) in the Royal Escape thread. :)
This the edition that I originally read for the first time.
. This time, I’m listening to the audio edition for the first time. The narrator is Phylida Nash.
eAudio chapters don’t line up with the hard copy.
I've also read this one many times--one of them being while I was in the hospital in labor with my elder son (that would be 30+ years ago). At that time I had a cheesy Ace paperback, the cover of which doesn't appear to be on the Goodreads list--small loss!Nowadays I have a hardcover edition, which used to have this dust jacket until it went walkabout:
Plus an ebook edition for my Kindle, which is currently my reading copy.
So excited to start this today! Going to read along on Kindle with the new Audible version narrated by Raj Ghatak. Just released today on Audible.co.uk. Hope everyone is happy and healthy :-)
I started yesterday. I've been having a hard time reading lately and I thought, well, Heyer is never a problem and I was right. A long time since I read this one but remember parts of it. I'm also reading Georgette Heyer, History and Historical Fiction
Samantha J. Rayner, Kim Wilkins. Enjoying it so far.
Meant to say, reading on Kindle this time with my paperback to hand in case I need to go back and check something. Good luck with that Abigail. Sounds exciting.
Margaret, I love that cover. I'm going to talk about the cover with three women in the spoiler thread.

I was kicking myself that I didn’t buy the Phyllida Nash audible when I had the chance - I love her voice, and now it’s gone!
I reread my paperback
and listened to the abridged audiobook
with Claire Wille through Scribd. She’s quite good, actually, and I just kept my pb handy in case she skipped any good bits.
Hugh’s marriage-proposal speech was worse than (spoiler for Pride and Prejudice) (view spoiler)I’m listening to the audio this time around. Hugh’s “romantic” speech is even worse to hear, than to read!

My edition is a Sourcebooks edition (as are all of my paper copies) and I’ve seen the images used on Sourcebooks GH titles on other books too. I think they’re stock images or something.
I've read this several times, and I like it a lot, but it's not in the top 3 or so. Still, I'm looking forward to revisiting it with the group. :)(I'm also currently reading Frederica, which is one of my very favorites, tied with The Grand Sophy. You can't have too much Heyer, I don't think!)
I think I'll try to join in. I've read this many times. I listened to it several months ago but I might just be in the mood to listen to it again (need a feel-good, comfort read right now). Thankfully, all my Heyer audibles were downloaded on my ipad before Audible decided to delete them all and replace with new versions. I love Phyllida Nash as a narrator.

Hugh’s proposal is terrible!
The way he goes on with 'like him better than Hugh, like him better than Jack' and so on, over and over. Hannah must be a saint :):)
This is my second read of this book. I think I raced through it the first time, so did not appreciate some of the fabulous lines....Freddy, when talking to his Dad about sister and her relationship with another man 'Yes, but no need to fear there'll be any brats coming through the side door'. It really is one of her wittier romances.
This title was my first Heyer some years ago, I loved it and it's still my #1. I think I'll re-read it.

Me too - but I never feel, when reading the scenes he's in, that GH is mocking those whom we'd now call people with learning difficulties, do you?
The absurdities of the situation are as much in how people react to Dolphinton as how he behaves in himself; I think the author treats him kindly, and he definitely has his own personality - he's braver than he thinks he is, and actually does a good job of standing up to his mother, even though he is (rightly) terrified of her.

Yes! We hardly ever see her (just the once, I think) but we certainly know just what kind of person she is, don't we? It's very well done - rather reminiscent of how she builds up a picture of Conway in Venetia without him ever appearing.

I agree, Jenny, it is well done. and I think the only time she is actually in a scene is when she makes her son bring Kitty to visit her during intermission when they are at a play or something. Horrible woman!you can tell a lot about the other characters based on how they interact with Dolph.
absolutely, Margaret.
(view spoiler)
A bit late to the party, but I started reading this last night and am already half way through, I forgot how much I enjoy Heyer! At this point I'm particularly enjoying the interactions between Freddy and his father.

Freddy is just funny no matter who he is talking to!

This book is much-loved by many members, and the group has had several group reads over the years.
We will continue with our two-thread format, one without spoilers (any spoilers must be in spoiler tags), and one with open Cotillion spoilers (spoilers for other books would need to be in spoiler tags). This thread will be the spoiler free thread.
It is a good idea to hop over to the spoilers thread now if you are re-reading the book and remember it well. That way you are free to openly discuss any and all Cotillion spoilers.
I cannot remember how many times I have read this, only that it was one of my first reads, and is still a favourite.
