Champlain's Dream: Best History Book?

Finally finished Champlain's Dream. To my mind, this is one of the most comprehensive and readable of all the history books I have read. We should be celebrating Samuel de Champlain far more in Canada. He was the first true Canadian showing tolerance, respect, curiosity, enterprise, and vision.

It may be the definitive work on Champlain and early Quebec for a long time to come. And it's splendid in its presentation -- well-illustrated -- and in its prose. Great research, and good literary value as well.

I beg to differ: the author appears obsessed with making Champlain into a near-saint, based on very skimpy historical evidence. Also: the book is shot through with egregious editing, spelling, footnote and other errors! The author, editors, proofreaders and publisher should be ashamed.
