Hello! I am here, but thought we were starting today for some reason. I’ll post more regarding plans and so forth later today. Sorry for not checking in sooner!

Woo Ha! Sooo glad you made it!

As you make plans, see if any of your reads fit the Tasks listed in message 4.

If you have a book you REALLY want to read let us know. We can see if we can make it fit.

Looking forward to seeing your choices.

Nikki (nikki_framke) | 276 comments Wow!! Checking in with the team for the first time and I already feel like I'm behind! I'll start with checking out the spreadsheet. Can't wait to start!

Nikki (nikki_framke) | 276 comments Okay, so checked out the spreadsheet and read through the prompts...again...wow! What amazing work and dedication! I'm not super picky, and if possible I'd prefer someone else to put my books and what not into the spreadsheet so I don't mess it up!

If you want to let me know which prompts we still need to fill, I can select books based on them.

**Heart Pounding! Thought you weren't coming!

The Tasks that we still need books for are in message 4. (Always changing.)

If you have a book you REALLY want to read, we have enough variety that we probably can swap some around to accommodate you.

So happy you have arrived.

Let's have some fun together. :D

message 60: by Nikki (new)

Nikki (nikki_framke) | 276 comments Yes! Fun all the way! Here are my reading plans and prompts I'll work on:

1. A book featuring a bibliophile, bookworm, librarian, or bookshop: The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek

2. Read the 25th book on your TBR list: The Trial of Lizzie Borden

3. Read a book from the Best Books of 2012 listopia: either Me Before You or The Raven Boys

message 61: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay, I have entered 4 books into the spreadsheet, correctly, I hope!

Planned:
John Banville: The Sea
Zadie Smith: NW
Graham Swift: Last Orders
Paul Auster: City of Glass

Should I list potential categories here, as well? I tried to find empty spaces according to the spreadsheet and message #4. Let me know if I need to do anything differently.

Your choices are on the spreadsheet and I was able to assign them to you. There is no title there for "Best Book of 2012", it can be filled in when you decide.

Thanks for finding books to fit the tasks that were yet to be assigned.

Hope you enjoy The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. I thought it was excellent.

Your books have all been assigned on the spreadsheet.

You do not need to list the other potential matches here, but if you find other matches that haven't been marked on the spreadsheet, let me know.

Good list, thank you.

I'm pretty sure I can read at least one more book, but I'm not sure if I can fill any of the leftover prompts, except for the 25 chapter one (but that one fits a lot of books I guess and I don't want to make it too difficult for EL). In 'de selectie' there might also be making new friends and/or a party, but I'm not sure, since I can only know for sure when I finish it :p. The two books with at least 25 chapters that I have left are 'the selectie' en 'long road to mercy' (which also fits the prompt starting with a L. It's a bit of a puzzle now at the end :p

Almeta,
I have only listed my first three books.
Would you like us to list all the books we are definitely planning to read during the readathon? Just want to be clear.

ETA: I checked our spreadsheet and see that you've added lots of books, so I added six more of mine to the spreadsheet.

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 317 comments oshizu wrote: "...Would you like us to list all the books we are definitely planning to read during the readathon? Just want to be clear....."

Everyone has checked in but El. She signed up for 2 books.

Sooo, if you can fill any of the blanks spots, now is the time!

I moved the ones that you just added to be next to your other 3. (If it is not a problem, I'd like to move them all to the other end of the sheet. You and I are taking entire screens!)

Thanks for offering to be flexible. We'll see what happens. ;D

Haha, I thought I was losing my mind when I revisited the spreadsheet and my books weren't in back of your Aristotle & Dante.
Yes, I've only added books that fit yet-to-be-completed prompts.
Also, yes, please relocate my book columns wherever you wish.

Do me a favor and double check your qualifying prompts for
Bellwether and Nursing Home Murder. I was interrupted while working on those two and am not sure I have them marked correctly.

Will do that right now.

Edited to add:
*Bellwether is correct
*Nursing Home Murder is not (it doesn't fit the first trio task).
It does fit the 25+-book series prompt plus the author wrote 25+ books/25+ years prompts. (Note: I've replaced this book with another, see msg #85 below)

Michelle (spookiieej) | 422 comments Okay, since my last message didn't really get picked up and now so many prompts are filled, I can read one more book on top of my two, but I don't have a book that fills the prompts anymore :p. I also put in the two I definitely wanted to read and left the other ones to be determined after everyone else, but now everything is filled that fitted the books. So I guess if I read extra books, I'll read them for wildcards :p.

I don't really understand the prompt 'making new friends' though. I have 'de selectie' which is about a competition to become rich, where you get cut from your family. So she'll probably make new friends in the book, but I don't know if that fits the prompt :p

Oh Michelle, I actually read your message and began investigating what prompts your book would fit. Which turned out to be a few.

There are indeed new friendships made in your book. I am assigning
De Selectie (The Selection) to that prompt.

Ziggy, It is great of you to offer a swap.

Michelle won't need to do that, but we should all keep in mind that this option exists for any of the prompts and members.

In fact I like the idea of a swap for "books you shelved in the month you joined this group." It seems to be more difficult for teamies to meet.

a book with a party or anniversary celebration.

In fact If Michelle says her birthday was after shelving "Penumbra"
(Apr 24, 2020), I may move her again. Finding a book for bookworm/bookstore, etc. would be easier to fill.

Michelle (spookiieej) | 422 comments I turned 25 on the 26th of August in 2020 ;). I don't really use a TBR list, which is why I find that prompt very hard. I don't keep a list of books I definitely want to read and if I am looking for books to read, it is just what I come across most of the time :p. I shelf books that I find somewhere or seem interesting, but a lot of them are also not available for me since some are not translated and I mostly have access to Dutch books. But if we do assume that the things I shelf are my TBR list, I guess the Penumbra-book is from before I was 25 :p.

Well, hmmmm!

I interpret the instructions to be highlighting on the PLANNING page. Are we supposed to use highlighting on the TRACKING page as well? If so, let's be consistent and use light pink.

LOL! This will teach you all to allow me to captain without having experience in this group! I don't know the culture and rules that well, yet
