Helen Oyeyemi is one of the stand-out authors from the Nigerian diaspora. She was born in Nigeria, but moved to London at age 4.

Beverly | 543 comments I believe in the saying - "Every book is not for every body but every book is for someone".

Though I am a reader of speculative fiction, Oyeyemi's writing style does just does not seem to appeal to me. This does not mean that I do not respect her talents just that her books and I do not seem to mesh.

I have actually read three of her books.
I still have an open mind that one of her books will appeal to me.

Interesting, Beverly. I have Icarus Girl but have not read it. I have enjoyed reading about her/interviews with her, but not having read any of her work, I have no idea if I like her writing. Now I'm really curious. That's great that you keep giving her writing a chance!

JenniferD (jooniperd) i have two of oyeyemi's books, Mr. Fox and Boy, Snow, Bird - but i have not read her yet. she seems to divide readers, so i am quite curious as to how i will fare with her writing.

Zanna (zannastar) | 191 comments I'm new to Oyeyemi, but I have a yet-to-be read copy of Mr Fox stored at my parents' house. I'll pick it up and bring it to London next weekend when I visit them = )
