Faithe In the beginning, it says that the crew consisted of 17 men, one died on the way. 17-1=16.
Then, when they land, Cpt Black, Lustig & Hinkston go to look around, leaving 14 armed men on the ship. 14+3=17! So, now we are back to 17 men!?
Then, in the end, they bury 17 men.
The math isn't adding up. There should only be 16 men, yet the story talks as if there are plainly 17?
Misprint? Surprise twist?

Am i guess the corpse was still on the ship because there was no way for them to dispose the body during their journey?

I wondered about this too. Could it be that they were all dead when they got there? Or was it just an inconsistency that no one picked up on? I considered that maybe it referred to the corpse, like Amphaphone said, but I doubt the corpse was waiting for them to get back.
