Which languages can you read in? Unfortunately a lot of good stuff appears to not have been translated into english.

Maybe you would like Popular Music from Vitulla by Mikael Niemi? It takes place in the northern part of Sweden, close to the Finnish border.

Per Petterson is a Norwegian writer who wrote the highly-acclaimed Out Stealing Horses. He has quite a few novels that have been translated into English.

I can read only English. It makes it complicated to find if books have been translated.
