Welcome to the King of Scars Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on March 21st and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

March 23: Chapter 11-15

I listened to the book too, and if I do reread it I'm again going to listen to it because I don't think I'll have time otherwise.

omg wait.. aha totally wrote this on the wrong thread...but I feel this same way about Shadow and Bone so I kinda need to reread the first book before I finish.

I made some time so that I could kinda join this BR. I'm not really going to follow the schedule, but I also see no one else is either. I reread the first two chapters, and I remember them which is great.

I like the writing. Also, it's interesting to start the book with liking Zoya, since I wasn't her fan the last time I started reading King of Scars.

I am at chapter 10 so I am also late and the book is really good so far.

Surprisingly I am starting to really like Zoya which wasn't the case when I first read the trilogy. She might end up as one of my favorite characters by the time I finish reading.

Omg yes! I didn't like Zoya and Nina when I first read this, but by the time I finished it they were my favorites..

I haven't made any progress, and probably won't in a few days until I read more of my other BR or finish it.

I've read till chapter 4 so far. Yes, I don't hate Zoya at this point and that is surprising given how her character was in Shadow and Bone series. I feel bad for Nina, still trying to cope up with the memories of Matthias.

While there are lot of characters from Shadow of Bone trilogy mentioned, I seem to remember only a few of the main characters. Characters like Adrik are not really in my memory and that needed some refreshing.

Btw, in chapter 4:
Nikolai set to opening the Schuyler combination locks he’d learned about from a certain master thief in Ketterdam
Is that a reference to Kaz?

I finished the book and it was great!

I also couldn't remember some characters or references from the S&B trilogy so I went back to reread them.

And yes I believe that's a reference to Kaz. There are actually a few other references to the Crows in later chapters.

I'm somewhere in the middle of chapter 6 because I didn't have much time to read anything 😅 So far nothing new happened, as I read I remember things that happened.. I don't have the same enthusiasm for the book like the first time I read it but that's not surprising considering that I remember things.

And yes it's a Kaz reference. I love that, and I was so happy I read the previous books so that I could catch those small mentions of characters from the other books.

Yes, I too read the other books in this world, but I read them more than 2 years ago, so I dont remember the details. Btw another reference I caught is Dunyasha. Its nice to find these references.

I have to say that this is good so far. I am not bored but nothing interesting has happend yet. I am getting the feeling that these early chapters are setting up something big that is going to come.

CH13 It's sad how they made Nikolai "behave himself" by punishing Dominik, but it's nice that they became real friends. I just want to give Nikolai a big hug.

I love small throwbacks like this 😃

I started part two of the book. I thought I may regret rereading it because I mostly remember what happened, but it's so worth for Zoya and Nikolai banter.. or just Zoya and her snark 😂
