Hey Guys! I hope a lot of you have read The Song of Achilles. Discussion is now in progress. This is all still new so feel free to just talk about your thoughts and opinions and such. Share some of your notes from your annotations and what you rate the book out of 5. Favorite and least favorite characters and your criticsm as well.

Also with March coming up, leave a comment of your suggestion for the next BOTM. If some of you wish to start reading from a series we can do that. We’ll start with one standalone and one book from a series each month and go from there.

Have a good day!

Hajar ♡ (hajarrbeni) the last paragraph BROKE ME
“IN THE DARKNESS, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.”
i literally bawled when i read this.

Jessica Ryder (jessiereads_) | 30 comments omg yes the last para :(( but what was so sad was when achilles found out he had died, they had such a pure love that it was destined to end in tragedy and aww i dont think ill find a book like it. I didn't rlly like the addition of achilles son at the end he just kinda ruined it a bit

Hajar ♡ (hajarrbeni) righttt his son was getting on my nerves. he messed everything up

Emily Water | 21 comments I don’t think I can express the way I felt at the end of this book. It was so beautifully written and I loved both of them so much!! It’s very high up on my list now and yeah the son was getting in my nerves too at the end!
And I think it would be a great idea to do another poll for March

Finley (finleybjanssen) I read this a couple months ago and wish I liked it more. I think I rated it 3 or 4 stars, but I really liked the actual story and I love Greek mythology but I just felt like the ending was rushed so I couldn’t fully experience what happened. I kind of want to reread it though because I really loved Circe.

Maiken (maikenevensen) I loved the book but the ending ruined me :(( I didn't like the son either

nina (nina_hsny) | 13 comments A wonderful book, a wonderful writing and a wonderful reading. I've been attached to the characters like I've never been before and that's why THIS end broke me :( I think we can qualify this book as a tragedy. I know that maybe in one year I'll read it again because it's the kind of book that doesn't deserve to be forgotten :)
(also I wanted Achilles's son dead more than once tbh)

amy (heavenlyamy) | 10 comments LMAO DON’T MIND ME A MONTH LATER FINISHING THIS BOOK BUT I WANTED TO POP IN THE DISCUSSION WITH THE REST OF YOU SO HERE I AM :)

ALSO SPOILERS (OBVI)

this book gave me so many emotions omg. finished it just really recently at like 1:30 in the morning after 30 days (😍) madeleine miller’s writing is 1) SO BEAUTIFUL LIKE HOW?? just the way she flows her words amazes me 2) i really liked her way of delving into the plot a lot deeper besides a basic summary of greek mythology

in my opinion, this book does lives up for the hype on tiktok, although i can really easily see how people might dislike the book (i most definitely was thinking about rating it like a 4 or 3.5 until the last 10ish pages and especially with THETIS’S REDEMPTION ARC. idk what about it but the fact thetis showed some character development at the end kinda made the whole book for me. if thetis’s character development didn’t happen i would have definitely rated the book a little lower because i was kinda upset with achilles’ character towards the end (especially when he lets patroclus fight in the war and him acting all surprised when he dies like it was your fault for letting your pride get in the way). AND OMG I LIVE FOR THE PYRRHUS (achilles’ son) SLANDER WE HAVE GOING LIKE HE WAS SO ANNOYING. notable characters i liked included breseis and surprisingly, i came to like odysseus as well. for the list of characters i feel like annoyed me but i didn’t really dislike include the agamemnon guy and paris. paris just gave me weird vibes 😀 anyways that’s all my thoughts on the book right now cause i’m kinda tired and can’t think anymore but definitely an enjoyable read!

Its never too late haha but we do love the Thetis redemption arc. Also I’ve been keeping up with your updates and from what I can recall with my insane memory, you betted on Achilles dying to save Patroclus. pay up sis😌

Leah Sweeney | 4 comments OK GUYS I FINISHED HERE IS MY REVIEW

At first, i did not feel drawn to this book. not at all. greek mythology doesn’t interest me so it was hard to start. But once I started, I liked it a lot.

this is going to be a long review, as it should be. this book deserves it.

im not one to cry over books. i’ve never cried over a book before. but this one.? I had a huge MELTDOWN. I was sobbing. Oh my god this book is so beautifully written. The end is honestly so heartbreaking. A beautiful ending, but the falling action is heat-stabbing.

The book also gives such a perfect perspective on gay (man and man) relationships. The author wrote it just as if it was a hetero relationship (Patroclus and Achilles). Their relationship is so lovely and intimate. Achilles does anything to protect Patroclus.

I don’t want to spoil this anymore for you, you must read this book. Best book i’ve read. This broke me, and will stay with me for a lifetime.
