It is fundamentally different from Marsha's first two books which more focus on plots than subjects. To enjoy this book one should read it creatively and critically - read with slower pace than usual, participate, ask questions, and be eager to learn a different culture.

You are right. There is deep and multi-layered symbolism within this novel, and no reviewer has yet to do justice to it. The spiritual aspect is such a massive subject in itself.
