Of Mutts and Men by Spencer Quinn 3 really fun stars

Another rollicking adventure with Chet and Bernie. Chet doesn't worry and he has at least half a brain--what a thought! But Bernie is the most brilliant man, so he does the big thinking! Chet isn't sure who is the sidekick in this team, but Bernie is a PI and Chet nearly passed as a police dog, so is a total pro.

In this story, the aquifer appears as a main feature; anyone who has read this series knows that Bernie is very concerned about the aquifer and the flagrant waste of water in the desert by people with grass lawns and other things that have no business being in the desert, although grass does feel really good under the paws. A hydrologist who has asked Bernie and Chet to come and see him one morning is dead by the time they get there, and it is obviously murder. There are some nefarious people here, and, once again, Chet knows things he isn't able to tell Bernie, because as a human, Bernie just can't smell very well. Also, well to tell you anything else would be a spoiler--wait, did I say spoiler? Does that mean spoiled? I can't smell anything rotting, so what does this mean?...
