It would have been cruel to tear the child away from everything she was used too and for what? To lock her up in a room on her own. I'm very surprised Fitz didn't keep Nettle more up to date with Bees development. I think that, up to the time Molly died, Bee was an afterthought to Fitz. He didn't much interest in her. Thankfully that's changing.

Bee is obviously witted. I hope Fitz allows her to get a dog, every child should have a pet and in this case it would be a much needed friend.

You're probable right about the distant relationship. His skilling always made Bee uncomfortable. She and Molly had such a close relationship, I don't think anyone got a look in when she was a baby. When she got a bit older he though she was "simple" and I got the feeling that he a bit embarrassed by her. It was only when she started to show her talents that he gave her some attention in the evenings but as for her care and daily routine, he had no clue. She wasn't a big part of his life.

He certainly is protective. That FitzVigilant is lucky to be alive. I can't say that I blame Fitz for not wanting anything to do with court and its intrigue. He's been used and abused all his life and wants to keep his family free from all that. (hide spoiler)]

I think that whole scene was very telling (view spoiler)[of what Chade is capable of and how much Fitz understands that. Chade's loyalty to the Farseers is everything and if it was necessary to assassinate a baby that could be a threat, then he would do so, regardless of who's baby it was. 2. Who is the pale messenger? Is she the same race as the Fool? Who is it that gets her pregnant and takes the children away, maybe the same people that got Molly pregnant?

3. Is the child that she seeks a farseer or is it the Fools? Maybe Joplayas (?) child who she was told not reveal where where he was? I mean the toymaker that Fitz visited on his way to the mountain kings funeral.

4. What on earth was put into the messengers body that was trying to eat her from the inside? What a nasty way to kill someone! I assume Fitz put her out of her misery.

5. How will Bee put up with Shun? What a nasty, whiney girl!!!

Chapter 9 - 11

(view spoiler)[ I'm heartbroken that Molly died. I think Fitz might have tried to bring her back if there had been any indication that part of her still lived. It's for the better that he couldn't.

Nettle was named appropriately. She wasn't taking "no" for an answer about taking Bee with her to Buckkeep. That would have been a disaster for Bee, but Bee is made of pretty stern stuff too and made it clear that she was staying.

I feel sad for Fitz and Nettle that they will never have that close father/daughter relationship. It weighs on Fitz but I'm not sure if it weighs on Nettle in the same way.

Bee is strong in the skill. I wondered if that was why she flinched from Fitz and from Nettle, and it's been confirmed now. (hide spoiler)]

He was freaking out that Bee would also be claimed as sacrifice and I think he was relieved when Kettriken came and decided the babe wouldn't survive so left it at that.

There's a side to the Farseers that is brutal. Did you see the Netflix series "The Crown"? You could see the same attitude with Queen Elizabeth. Nothing was more important that the crown and people were sacrificed for it. Princess Margaret's desire to marry was denied. Princess Diana was destroyed. Granted, the show was fictionalized, but the message it portrayed - that NOTHING was more important that the crown - was the same attitude the Farseers have. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 12-15

There was quite a lot that happened in this section. (view spoiler)[ So who is Shun? How long has it been since Regal died? I think the time frame was too long for him to be her father, so Chade? That would explain his anxiety over the situation.

She's not a very likeable character. Maybe she's just scared, but good grief! I'd like to smack her.

There's another messenger, or is it the same one returned. We thought she had died. She's so like the Fool that Fitz thought she was at first. Was the message just that Fitz is being hunted? Or is there more to it?

Bee's dreams are very vivid and detailed. And who is Father Wolf who helped her in the secret passages? (hide spoiler)]

Further thoughts on her - (view spoiler)[ When she first met Fitz in the bar, she didn't seem to be this self entitled creature. Certainly she was coquettish (ties in with Margo's assessment of the way she interacts with men), but there seems to be a disconnect between that Shun and the one who moved in to be under Fitz's protection.
