Penelope Douglas Q&A
So can we ask questions? If so
I know this is a dark seres and all and again I understand that not every one is comfortable reading about it in fiction
But just to satisfy my Curious brain
... mads and octavia when there older no - yes
Is there any book that you would rerewrite in a different way now?I love them all so much btw but I always think about this and I would love to know what’s a actual writer opinion 😅
How much of yourself do you put into characters? / What is your process in getting to know your characters? I feel like I would want to respond in certain situations as myself and I wonder how you separate from that in your writing.
Do you usually organize the whole book before you start writing or you start the writing after setting the main ideas for each story?
From the new characters/couple that are coming, each is the one that you are more excited right now?
Have you thought of writing Mads and Octavia their own story? I know it’s totally taboo but I’m here for it! Can you imagine the drama and angst and Damon and Kai’s reactions...a girl can only dream! I think your writing is incredible and you could honestly write any trope and it will be amazing!! Thank you for giving us incredible books filled with lovable characters ❤️ I can’t wait to read more from you!!
Realistically how many hours per day do spend writing? What does your writing schedule look like, or are you the type of person to write when the mood strikes? How do you keep yourself motivated when hitting writing slumps? Thank you! Can’t wait for Motel! 🥰
What keeps you going and remaining true to yourself when facing adversity or hateful comments toward your writing/books? I admire that you stay true to yourself and your writing style, but understand that this probably doesn’t come without struggles.
What can you tell us about Tryst six venom? Who was the most difficult couple to write out of all the devils night ones? Which heroine from DN is your fave or the one closer to you?

Like more books, you mean? At this time, no. It's always possible there will be spin-offs down the road, but I'm REALLY busy with so many other projects. Like sooooo busy lol. And there are so many kids and Alex and the Moreaus and it would go on forever. I would really love to explore other worlds for a while.
Thanks for the question!
luna.reads wrote: "Do you have any plans on writing a M/M romance someday??"Yes! I already have one on the schedule <3
luna.reads wrote: "Which are you more excited to share with us? Helbent #1, Tryst-Six-Venom, or Motel?? Love you 💕"
That changes, depending on where I am in the development process lol. Right now, TSV!
Joana wrote: "Is there any book that you would rerewrite in a different way now?I love them all so much btw but I always think about this and I would love to know what’s a actual writer opinion 😅"
I don't know any writer who doesn't want to redo at least part of every book. As you get more experience under your belt, you change as a writer and you wouldn't write books you wrote 5 years ago the same way today. There are a couple I would definitely rewrite MAJORLY if I could lol
Jade DeMonaco wrote: "My question is do you plan to write any more taboo books?"Oh, yes. Definitely.
kennlou wrote: "How much of yourself do you put into characters? / What is your process in getting to know your characters? I feel like I would want to respond in certain situations as myself and I wonder how you ..."A lot of me goes into each character, different aspects. Usually the process of getting to know them just takes time. The last half of a book can be written in a month. The first half can take 5 months, because I don't know the characters yet and it takes time to figure out how they'd react.
Joana wrote: "Do you usually organize the whole book before you start writing or you start the writing after setting the main ideas for each story?"I usually plan it out pretty well. I need direction. Lol. The outline will change as I write, but I need a plan to set me in motion.
Thanks for the question!
Joana wrote: "Will you ever tell us which horsemen is famine, war, plague and death? 🥵"I can tell you MY thoughts, but there's no right or wrong answers. You can decide. For me, Michael is famine, Kai is war, WIll is conquest, and Damon is death. <3
I love you and your books so much! They made me laugh, cry and get so connected with the characters. I can't serious get enough of your books and every time I'm feeling kind of down, I always go to a reread.
You're one of my confort authors and without a doubt my favorite so thank you for all the amazing stories that I have already read and can't wait for all the ones you have planned for the future <3

I know readers would love more and it's hard to hear that. If I ever have any ideas, I will definitely write them, but I'm not willing to force books. The result is always bad. The characters are yours now to dream about and live on in your head. <3

With home schooling, it's been hard to maintain expectations, so I try to be flexible with myself lol. As far as motivation goes, I find Pinterest and playlists are really helpful! And snacks :D
Julia wrote: "Do you have a favorite book you wrote? do you have a favorite character you have written ?"I am most happy with Corrupt--the story-telling, plot, chemistry...
My favorite characters to write are the crazy/pained ones lol. Damon, Ryen, KC...
Julia wrote: "Is a second generation devils night still off the table?"As far as I can see, yes. That can always change, but I'm really happy with my new worlds right now and while I want to make people happy, forcing ideas just because of reader demand will make me miserable. ;)
Julia wrote: "Who does madds look like more ?"I rarely ever use muses, actually. I don't know! Lol. How about the readers decide? He's yours now. <3

Some readers go above and beyond to terrorize you on SM, so I remove myself from the problem. I can't be anyone else, and I can't publish books I hate, so I will always do exactly what I want, but I do take measures to keep a good headspace by logging off. <3
Thanks for the question!
Shelby wrote: "If you were a reader and you had to read your books which one would be your fave and why?"Answered above <3 Corrupt! It's the best example of my storytelling, I believe.
luna.reads wrote: "Do you plan on writing more Dark themed books?? Maybe standalones??"Yep! I have a standalone planned. <3
Shelby wrote: "What can you tell us about Tryst six venom? Who was the most difficult couple to write out of all the devils night ones? Which heroine from DN is your fave or the one closer to you?"TSV is a standalone F/F romance between the popular girl and the girl from the other side of the tracks, set in high school. It's love hate with my standard fare--raw emotion, confrontations, and misbehavior ;)

Thanks, Joana! I am honored. Hope I can keep it up with my new work <3
Hi Penelope! I am so happy I found your books this year. I'm almost done with the Devil's Night series and I can't stop talking about them (even if my family has no idea what I'm talking about :P). 1. Your scenes are so detailed. I am astonished because you spend a lot of time crafting each scene so it feels real. How do you get yourself into the scene while you're writing?
2. Where do you come up with your ideas?
3. Do you have a favorite Devil's Night couple?
4. When you started Corrupt, did you already have an idea for the other horsemen's stories in mind or did you explore what it was gonna be and who they were gonna love as you got to each book?
5. Which DN book was the hardest for you to write?
Thanks for being here and answering questions!
luna.reads wrote: "Tell us what your favorite book’s playlist is??"Hey! They were all my favorite at one time, but the ones I probably listen to more often than others are Punk 57 and Until You. Now, I'm listening to my secret playlists more than anything ;) To be revealed!!
Sydney wrote: "Hi Penelope! I am so happy I found your books this year. I'm almost done with the Devil's Night series and I can't stop talking about them (even if my family has no idea what I'm talking about :P)...."Hi, Sydney!
1. I think most of my readers know I'm a big fan of my mood boards on Pinterest and my playlists. Those help set the aesthetic really well and give me some visualization.
2. Lots of dreaming. I think about what interests me or excites me, and that's what I write. There will always be people who like the same thing. We all have a tribe. <3
3. Nope! I love Rika's fight, Banks' cleverness, Winter's way of seeing the world, and Emory's survival and vulnerability. Their loves compliment them in a way no one else does <3
4. Originally, Corrupt was a standalone, but halfway through the other characters were getting fleshed out (Will and the gazebo, Damon and his past, Kai and his intrigue), I realized it was becoming a series.
5. Probably Hideaway. It took the longest. The second book in a series is always hardest for me.
Thanks for the questions!!
Thanks

Hey, Arya!
I don't have any of the kids' futures envisioned. :( I wish the ideas would come for you all, but all I have it what I've written so far. It's up to readers now to interpret the dynamics, and I've seen some clever and insightful conversations. Keep going! <3
I have some questions about covers! What is your favorite type of cover? You seem to have a mix (models and object-centric) so I was wondering which do you prefer more?
Do you already have a vision for what you want the Hellbent series covers to look like? Will they have models (like Fall Away) or be object-focused (like Devil's Night)?
Do you have any plans to release hardcovers of your previous releases one day? I absolutely love Corrupt from The Mystic Box and I would love to have the whole series in hardcover in the future!
Would you ever write a historical romance? AP's storyline from Nightfall intrigued me and got me thinking! Even if it isn't about AP, (since I know you're done with Devil's Night right now), I feel like you could write such a good historical romance!
heyy penelope!Hope you’re having a nice day!So I was curious about if you had to choose any 3 of your books that you feel the closest with, which 3 would you choose out of all your books and why?
Since you were a teacher for years, what advice would you give someone else who is trying to make a career shift toward writing?
Hi, I love reading your books they take me to a different world .I'm curious if there is going to be any more books in the fall away series
