Slight break from the usual BOTM discussions here, as it's end of the year and as I've previously mentioned in a message to everyone, we are going to have an recap BOTM of everything we've read this year.

This includes:
- House of Earth and Blood (May)
- Sorcery of Thorns (June)
- Serpent and Dove (July)
- Heartless (August)
- The Hunger Games (September)
- Cinder (September)
- Catching Fire (October)
- Six of Crows (October)
- Scarlet (November)
- Stalking Jack the Ripper (November)

What are your favourites from that list? What about least favourite and why? Generally just gush and rant about all these books you have voted for the BOTMs this year.

Let me know your thoughts below!

my favourite out of all of them was either house of earth and blood or six of crows. (the only book that i didn't read on this list was heartless.)

house of earth and blood was so good and i loved the friendship between bryce and danika. that was my favourite element in the book. their friendship was sooo beautiful, they loved each other so much. this book broke me towards the end and god i really hope that the next book comes out soon!

six of crows will always have a special place in my heart. i love the group of friends, and this book kinda has the found family troupe with i absolutely love in books! the friendships and relationships are so well done and the plot, even tho, it can be slow at times, it is still so beautifully written and you can see that leigh bardugo put her heart into it.

☀︎El In Oz☀︎ (elinoz) wow! so I have read all the books except for heartless. Sorcery of Thorns, The Hunger Games, Six of Crows, Catching Fire, and SJTR are all books I read in 2019, so I don't count them for my favourite of the BOTMs here:)

HOEAB was my absolute favourite. It's tied with Chain of Gold as my number 1 favourite book of 2020 (I can't pick one of the two!!) It was amazing. It also is one of my top 5 favourite books of all time, so I mean how could I not love it? I've read it twice this year and am planning to re read it again the beginning of 2021 (or soon if I feel like it).

Sorcery Of Thorns was my second favourite book of 2019, so I loved it a lot as well.

Serpent and Dove was one of my almost top 10 favourites of 2019 so needless to say I loved it as well.

THG and CF were some of my favourite books when I first read them in 2018, and still are now, along with Mockingjay, my 4th favourite trilogy of all time (but this could always change).

Six of Crows was my least favourite book of 2019, I'm super sad I disliked it. Honesty I didn't care for any of the characters (the only one I sorta liked was Wylan), the plot was boring, and it was soooo slow.

Cinder and Scarlet were both great, but the two last books, Cress and Winter, are way better.

Finally, SJTR was an okay book that I didn't really care for. I felt mostly the same about the sequel which I read a month ago. I am gonna read books 3 and 4 though because I really feel this series has potential especially due to the fact Kingdom of the Wicked (kerri's new book) was super good (I think it'll be in my almost favourites of 2020, so like top 20 books I read in 2020). I think she's better at fantasy, or maybe the fantasy elements add more to the story.

i have not read heartless, but i do wanna rank the other books from my least favourite to favourite so here it goes :)

9. catching fire - i found the hunger games series quite overrated to be honest. thsi book was so boring and it could have been so much more interesting. i love the movues, catching fire is a favourite movie of mine, but this was just not it.

8.the hunger games - the same as catching fire. overrated and quite boring.

7. cinder - i read it 2 years ago and it was good, but it didn't blow me away, i liked the next books better.

6. stalking jack the ripper - it was good, i liked the romance, but predictable in the end

5. serpent and dove - i absolutely loved when i first read this book, but sadly my love for it isn't as strong after i read the sequel. i was so disappointed by blood and honey and that made me rethink my love for this book too.

4. scarlet - i liked it, i still think taht this series is a bit overrated, but this series really did got better, like cress was amazing!

3. sorcery of thorns - i liked the magical library element in this book and that's a troupe that i'm actually looking forward to read in other books. i lovd the hcaracters and the plot was pretty good too.

2. six of crows - i love this book and i really need to reread it soon

1. house of earth and blood - i really loved the characters and i gotta say the friendship between danika and bryce got to me, they had such a beautiful friendship.

Amelie | 524 comments From the list, I’ve read Sorcery of Thorns, Serpent and Dove, Heartless, The Hunger Games, Cinder, Scarlet, and Six of Crows.

My favourite would easily be Six of Crows. I loved the characters and the realistic way they were depicted with their struggles, and the character relationships and romances were amazing too. The characters themselves were just so unique and really resonated with me. I also really liked the banter, schemes and world-building!

I highly enjoyed Serpent & Dove and Sorcery of Thorns. They both had creative magic systems, and great messages of overcoming prejudices against the magical community. The enemies-to-lovers romance was executed really well in Serpent & Dove, and I can’t wait to read the final book in the series. Sorcery of Thorns had a really cool concept of magical libraries, and I really liked the characters in the book too.

Cinder and Scarlet were enjoyable reads for me, and I really liked the way these sci-fi retellings of classic fairy tales were written. I don’t remember much since I read the series last year, but The Lunar Chronicles books were definetely among my favourites reads from last year.

That leaves Heartless and The Hunger Games from the list. Sadly I didn’t enjoy these as much as I would’ve liked to. I read The Hunger Games several years ago so my reading tastes have probably changed, but the story never clicked with me and I found the plot and romance to be incredibly boring. Heartless was an interesting fairy tale retelling, but I honestly found the plot to be quite boring, and the ending felt rushed, with Cath’s change feeling kinda unrealistic.

But overall, I enjoyed most of the books I read from the list, and I’m hoping to try some of the books I didn't get around to reading sometime as well.
