Lee Martens (leemartens) Hey everybody and welcome to the Goodreads group for the Mental Illness Awareness Readalong (#mentalong).

I'm going to make a YouTube video soon about this, so stay tuned for more info!

You can add books that touch the subject of mental illness to the shelves of this group so others can easily find books to read.

You can start a new topic to discuss a certain book or whatever else you want to talk about.

Finally, you can introduce yourselves under this post and feel free to leave a link to your channel, your blog and/or your twitter.

Anna (Unquenchable Reads) (unquenchablereads) Hi I'm Anna. I'm a booktuber and a blogger over at www.youtube.com/user/Unquenchablereads and www.unquenchablereads.wordpress.com . This sounds like a really cool read along.

message 10: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurabazaar) | 1 comments Hey, guys! My name is Laura and I'm from the Island of Enchantment (AKA, Puerto Rico). I don't really have a booktube channel as I'm, for the most part, a silent participant in the world of social media. However, I do have a general blog in which I post things related to all my fandoms (books obviously included) over at shingeki-no-dying.tumblr.com and another blog, where I think I post about books more often, at designer-undereye-bags.tumblr.com

I do hope to one day at least run a book blog, but that's a thought I've put a pin in for now.

At any rate, I'm really excited to be a part of this, seeing as how I'm currently recovering from a few mental illnesses myself. I hope this book club is able to inspire me and give me a bit of strength and motivation to keep moving forward! c:

Lee Martens (leemartens) Welcome everybody! So glad to see so many people join :) Kara, you can look for books to read on the shelves of this group. I've heard Schizo is pretty good. I myself haven't read too many books about this subject so I can't really recommend anything yet besides Looking For Alaska by John Green

message 16: by Gaia (new)

Gaia (athenagaia) | 2 comments Hey everyone,

I'm Gaia and this read-a-long sounds like a nice idea :). I don't have a BookTube channel or a blog (that I still update), but I mainly talk about books on a forum. Anyway, I follow Lieke, and a few others on here (either their blogs, YouTube channels, or both) and sometimes comment on their posts.

It's really nice, the list of books that we have compiled so far (I added two books that are about a character with OCD).

Just a question, do autism and AD(H)D also count as mental illnesses, or do they not count because one has them from birth? They are mental disorders but I'm not sure if that's the same as a mental illness?

I have autism and ADD and have read some books with these themes (particularly autism), but before I add those I just wanted to verify if it counts or not, because I'm not sure.

I look forward to the read-a-long and to get to know you all :).

message 17: by Lee (new)

Lee Martens (leemartens) Hey Gaia,

First off: thanks for joining :)
Secondly, I don't know if those mental disorders officially count as mental illnesses, but in this case, they count. I want to be open to anything and anyone. So feel free to add those books! :)

message 18: by Gaia (new)

Gaia (athenagaia) | 2 comments Thanks Lieke! I will do so :).

Alexandra Rolo (pantapuff) | 2 comments Hello everyone I'm a booktuber (https://www.youtube.com/pantapuff) and blogger (http://folhaembranco.blogs.sapo.pt/) and I'm on board with this idea. I think it's amazing. I'll do a couple of videos (one before and the other after) and post the book review on my blog (and goodreads, and facebook, and twitter - i'm everywhere xD).
I've added the book I'm going to read to the group book list.
I'm only reading one because it's the only one I have here (didn't remember I had it anymore xD) and I can't wait to start ^_^

message 22: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina Handal (sabrinahandal) Hey guys! My name is Sabrina and I am a Booktuber!! (Sabrina the Teenage Reader: http://youtube.com/sabrimha96) I found this readalong through the wonderful Lieke! It is such an amazing idea since mental illness awareness is an extremely important yet not much represented nowadays! I hope to have some great reads with you!

message 23: by Sofia (new)

Sofia Matias (sofiabmatias) Hi guys! My name is Sofia, and I am a booktuber over at (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl6G...), and my twitter account is (www.twitter.com/accioreviews).

I think this is a wonderful idea, and I am definitely joining in! I have "The Shock of the Fall" on my TBR, so I will be reading it for this, tweeting about it and posting a video review.

Let's do this!

message 24: by Esha (last edited Jan 31, 2015 03:42PM) (new)

Esha Sharma (eshareads) | 1 comments Hi guys! I am Esha from India. I have a Bookstagram account (http://instagram.com/readesharead), I just started a booktube channel (http://Www.YouTube.com/user/readaholime) and you can also find me on Twitter (https://twitter.com/readesharead).
I found about the readalong through Sofia. It is a very important issue that needs addressing. My little cousin suffers from Asperger syndrome and I see how ignorant people are towards such illnesses. It was a no brainer, I will be joining for sure.

message 25: by Kara (new)

Kara hi everyone! Im Kara. I am so glad I've stumbled upon this read-a-thon! I have bipolar disorder and it's been a long road. it's rather difficult for me to read many of these books because they bring back old memories that I'd rather forget. but thank you so much for starting this. Awareness is crucial in the fight against stigma.

message 26: by Kara (new)

Kara greetings kara frim Ireland!! I'm kara from tennessee, USA.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

wow, just realized I never introduced myself on here

Hi guys! I'm Daphne, DaphneM on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJOY...

I jumped on board when Lieke mentioned the readalong on goodreads and I hosted the sprints on Wednesday, which was fun.

Mental Illness is something that I've had to deal with all my life, not just within myself but my grandmother suffers from depression as I do, and autism as well as Asperger Symdrome are very dominant in my family, I even see it in my 3 year old niece. So obviously I'm all for bringing more awareness to it all and fighting against the taboo surrounding it.
