I read the book before 2011.
The girl is an orphan, her parents died in a shipwreck. she has a mark on her forehead that she's always had. I think it was set in ancient greece. she goes to live with her wealthy uncle who think she's a boy, but his wife eventually figures it out but doesn't tell him. she trains with warriors, eventually falls in love with one of them. she either gets sick or injured, and she finds out that the general is actually her mother in disguise and that the soldiers all know who she is because of the mark.
