Sue | 1229 comments I always loved the movie, but I think the book is so much better.

The movie version of Mary Poppins was so sugary-sweet. The book version is a lot more vinegar - and a lot more interesting.

The book is a series of stories and adventures - each more magical and improbable than the next. So many of the stories include animals, I put this review under the Animals tag for this month.

I'm so glad to have read the "real" Mary Poppins!

Robin P | 1922 comments Yes! I had read all the Mary Poppins books as a kid before the movie came out and the best thing about it was how she was so snippy and always denied that anything was happening. In the movie, she was way too nice.

I wonder if they have edited the books to take out some of the stereotypes about "Chinamen", Africans, etc.

Sue | 1229 comments No I don't think the version I had was edited at all. Always so interesting to read older books and come across something completely unacceptable today.
