YA Fantasy novel with Mermaids/Sirens. A boy lives on the coast with his mother. His father missing for years at sea suddenly returns home. Spoilers ahead.

Hello. I believe I read this paper book between 2008 and 2012, but I am not sure, I was in my early teens. The novel mainly takes place on the coast where a boy lives with his mother.

(view spoiler)[A boy's father returns home after being lost at sea and assumed dead. When the father returns, he tells of mermaids/sirens which with their beautiful songs can brainwash a man. He talks about a mermaid who he had a daugther with on an Island, full of other mermaids. He escaped the island on a ship that sailed close by the island. Now the mermaid/siren along with her daughter have come looking for the man at his human family's home by the coast (hide spoiler)]

This book has frustratingly eluded me for years. I remember some plot details vividly, but not the book title, author, publisher or book cover. That is why I am looking to this community for much needed help. Thank you very much for your time.
