He stays locked up inside the room, and I'm pretty sure it's like, a prison cell, but with a bathroom/bedroom, for when he shifts.

Actually, I found the book completely by mistake! It's called mate set by Laura Dohner. I was reading a different book of hers and found some of the characters to be familiar. Thank you for you help anyways!!
