Banned Books Week is coming up at the end of this month. It's an annual event sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) which celebrates the freedom to read what you want and highlights current and past attempts to censor material. It's amazing when you look at lists of books that have previously been banned by governments: Alice in Wonderland, Brave New Word, The Grapes of Wrath, Green Eggs and Ham (really!!), and Madame Bovary, just to name a few. And the list of challenged books (where someone is requesting that a book be restricted or banned) is even longer, and includes some utterly subversive works as Harry Potter and James and the Giant Peach!

So show your freedom-to-read pride and choose a banned/challenged book! There is plenty of additional info and recommendations at the link below.

Well besides those read in the past, read Brave New World (finally) just a few months back. Glad to know I’m part of the rebellion! 👊🏽

I’ve had my eye in it for a while so I guess it’s time to treat myself in honor of Banned Books Week!

That's a nice looking set - I love the censored "Do Not Read These Books" wrapper. And a good banned book collection.
