Salgood Sam | 3 comments Hi, so I saw an image meme with this quote on it on social media

“People are so fucking dumb. Nobody reads anymore, nobody goes out and looks and explores the society and culture they were brought up in. People have attention spans of five seconds and as much depth as a glass of water.”

When I looked it up one of the top search results lending it credibility, was the listing here.

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1180...

But it struck me as out of character for Bowie. The source appears to be an interview excerpt, on a satirical site posted just after his death. The full interview appears to not exist. It's highly suspicious and not in keeping with the way he talked about these things.

That sites about page makes it clear they don't post real information, so...ironic that those words are being shared in his name but they should not be listed on this site as his I think.

thanks.

Emily | 15018 comments That quote seems to be all over the place, as many misattributed quotes are, well before that site shared it.
I can't find a definitive source for it. I too feel like he wouldn't have said this and if he did, the quote is embellishing what was said.

Someone else may want to chime in.

Salgood Sam | 3 comments I didn't see any credible earlier mentiones of it.

Emily | 15018 comments I have deleted it. It won't go away on Google until they refresh their caching on their end. Someone may re-add the quote, but for now it is deleted.

Salgood Sam | 3 comments Maybe the thing to do then is not delete it, but edit/annotate it so it's clear it's a suspicious and likely false quote?

The way we would do that is in tags, but that wouldn't really show on Google results.
