Welcome to the suggestions thread for the 13th poll for the 2021 ATY Reading Challenge prompt list!

Just a reminder that you can find a full list of prompts already on the 2021 list in the third post on this thread.

A little reminder of how things are done around here:

How it works:
- The topics for the 2020 reading challenge list will be determined by a series of mini-polls, the number of which depends on the number of prompts winning in each mini-polls
- Suggestions for each poll will be opened until 15 suggestions are received and “seconded”.
- The voting thread will open the day after suggestions go live. You can find the schedule here.
- The poll will be posted after the voting thread is opened for 24 hours, and will remain open for three full days.
- Each user has 8 votes to spread between their favorite (top) and least favorite (bottom) prompts
- The prompts with the more favorable votes (comparing top votes to bottom votes, and looking at the overall number of votes it received) will be added to the final list (between 2 and 5 depending on how the votes are spread)

Rules:
- Each member can only suggest OR second one prompt
- Suggestions close after 15 total seconded prompts

When suggesting and seconding, feel free to provide examples and descriptions that may help other members understand the prompt better. These descriptions and examples will be copied over to the voting thread for further discussion.

As always, please express any and all feedback (respectfully, of course), either here or in The Wild Discussion.

message 7: by Ann (new)

Ann S | 587 comments How about: Reread a favorite book, but with a different perspective. We Did this in book club reading To Kill a Mockingbird but read it looking for how fear changed in the book. And how prejudice has or has not changed. It was really great.

Examples:

Animals (see https://www.goodreads.com/list/tag/an...)

Objects/Things (cocaine in Delicious Foods, a coin and the color red in My Name is Red)

Human-like non-humans: gods, demons, supernatural beings, aliens, robots, death (The Book Thief, various Discworld books), a corpse (various mystery/thriller books)

message 30: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (watermelanie) | 112 comments How about a book with one of the colors of ROYGBIV in the title? Ex: Half of a Yellow Sun, Anne of Green Gables, Sassafrass, Cypress & Indigo

message 31: by SarahKat (new)

SarahKat A book that deserves a second chance.

This could be a book you DNF'd but may want to pick up again, a book you never picked up because you didn't like the cover/hype, a book you were supposed to read in school, a book you listened to on audio that you might appreciate more in text form, etc....

message 32: by °~Amy~° (new)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) | 3017 comments Read a book that you consider 'unusual"

Such as:
1. a type of book you don't normally read
2. a book with an unusual cover
3. a book with an unusual title
4. a book with an unusual author name (Lemony Snicket, Silence DoGood, Duchess of Northumberland, etc.)
5. a book you picked up in an unusual way (ie. bookcrossing)
6. and any other way you can think of a book being unusual :-)

I like this idea, it's fun to think about and search for. I completely missed any discussion about it in the other post!

Would a title such as The Thousandth Floor count? Or The Girl in the Tower?

message 43: by Bree (new)

Bree (breemw) | 21 comments It’s the acronym for the rainbow: Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet

message 44: by dalex (new)

dalex (912dalex) | 1732 comments Nicole wrote: "Sorry, but could you explain what ROYGBIV is/means?"

ROYGBIV or Roy G. Biv is an acronym for the sequence of hues commonly described as making up a rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

message 45: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 7568 comments Mod
I'll second the ROYGBIV prompt!

message 46: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 101 comments Thank you both!

I would suggest adding that to the prompt, because I'm sure I'm not the only one at loss with the acronym? I guess its more common to know in English speaking countries.
