Book review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell. What you would or wouldn’t do to survive? A pacy, engrossing mystery thriller with a fascinating story line.
A large mysterious mansion, some murders, a baby in a cot, some missing teenagers (missing without a trace), some bizarre situations, power, control, greed, abuse and a 25 year gap to uncover the truth, made quite a compelling story.
The build up was really good, I didn’t even realise where the first 100 pages went. There are no major twists (lots of little ones), it’s gradual unravelling of the story, sometimes quite predictable and sometimes repetitive. I still found it gripping and thrilling, I had fun reading it (even the foreseeable parts). Although I do think, I would have enjoyed it more if the book were shorter by a 100 pages. A twisty, easy, dark read.
