Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 3263 comments ANYTHING GOES
Duration: 1 October - 31 December 2020

As we enter the last quarter of the year, it's time to start thinking about what books we want to read to reach our goals. Maybe you've got five books left to complete your reading challenge. Maybe you want to read that series that everyone has been talking about. Or maybe you want to do a challenge you didn't get chance to sign up for earlier in the year.
This challenge lets you choose your own prompts as you read whatever you like. The only rule is that each book can only count once here but you can be as creative as you like when you make your own challenge.

Sunny will be leading this challenge. Thank you!

Marleen | 786 comments Hi Sunny! I’d like to join in for 5 books.

What I want to do for this Anything Goes challenge: I want to read books that are currently on my physical shelves that have bookmarks in them, so books that I started at some point over the years but never finished. I’ve created a separate Goodreads shelf for them in preparation, “books-I-started-but-never-finished”. I found 10 bookmarked books, and I’d like to read at least half of them in Q4.

- later revised goal to 3 books -

Progress: 3/3, challenge completed!

1. The Hobbit, or There and Back Again
2. Hitman Anders and the Meaning of It All
3. Van je familie moet je het hebben

Jennifer Swan | 345 comments I really needed this challenge to finish off the year! Last year, I started reading like crazy and completed the PopSugar challenge for the first time. So naturally, I set my sights even higher this year, and joined 3 different yearly challenges as well as smaller ones along the way. I am a little overwhelmed at this point! So, I'm going to use this challenge to track the rest of my 2020 books I had set a goal to read. I'm setting a goal to read 22 books this quarter.

*Update: In order to complete this challenge as well as the yearly challenges I have listed, I have switched up several books and I am now including picture books, though I am also trying to stay in the "spirit" of the theme of that challenge. The number of books I am aiming for hasn't changed.

Bonnie (bonbayel) | 17 comments 34 books read (12/31)
✔️ !! 32 books read (12/26) !!

23 books read (12/8)
18 books read (11/29)
13 books read (11/18)

I need to read 32 books by the end of the quarter to reach my main 100-book goal. I don't think I'll make it, but this might encourage me to try! Most of the books I've found are long, and some are difficult. I am also reading a story in Japanese for a class. I might add it when I finish it (which I will consider a great achievement!)
* I have joined the Literati Malala book club . (Mid November I switched to the Literati Susan Orleans club instead, but I will have the books from both Malala and Susan to read in December.

* I am also a member of a book club in my retirement community.
* And lastly, there are still a lot of TBR books on my shelf and on
my kindle, which I find I can't resist adding to.

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 247 comments 2020 Reading Challenge
Q4 - Anything Goes
Duration:
1 October - 31 December 2020

Progress: 15 out of 15

As we enter the last quarter of the year, it's time to start thinking about what books we want to read to reach our goals. Maybe you've got five books left to complete your reading challenge. Maybe you want to read that series that everyone has been talking about. Or maybe you want to do a challenge you didn't get chance to sign up for earlier in the year.

This challenge lets you choose your own prompts as you read whatever you like. The only rule is that each book can only count once here but you can be as creative as you like when you make your own challenge.

Sunny will be leading this challenge. Thank you!

Hi Joanna, Why don't you set a goal counting the books you know for sure you are going to read. Then as you do your monthly challenges you can always add/change your goal total with your updates or you can simply add you monthly challenges to your books read side without changing your goal. It's okay if you read more than your goal. In fact, it looks pretty cool when you have more books read than what you set your goal for 😊

🇹🇼Taiwan: The Butcher's Wife and Other Stories by Li Ang
Magnificient collection of 6 short stories including the one that gives tittle to the book.
The six stories conform an album of instant photos in different periods of the life in Taiwan along the XX century that can be resumed in this paragraph from the last of the stories "A love letter never sent":

Taiwan is a changing society, one that is making the transition from agriculture to industry; during this period, pronounced changes in society's values are evolving, particularly where relations between the sexes are concerned. The dual moral standards of men and women have become a matter of serious debate.
