heard the tail end of the author reading an excerpt from this book on NPR sometime between 2014-2018.

I've searched the NPR site and Googlebooks. Hope you guys can help. Thanks.

Rainbowheart | 19579 comments Reminds me a little of The Ice Storm, but that's probably too old.

I don't think all the details match, either.

Can you rule out Commonwealth by Ann Patchett?

Who dies and how?

Where is it set? Country/region/city.

Kit Marlowe (kitmarlowe) | 3 comments After taking a quick peek at Commonwealth by Anne Patchett, I'm going to say that's not it. I'm pretty sure the reader on NPR was also the author - - and he was a guy. The book (or at least that scene from the book) was set in a 20th c. America. Point of view - an adult recollecting his childhood (I think). One of the kids of the adult visitors falls out of the tree and dies. The narrator finds a tooth on the ground. Kids outside at night unsupervised whilst the grown ups drink wine and get up to some hippie hijinks indoors.
