(That is not the correct COVER of the book I own by that ISBN)

I have Mass Paperback version with this
ISBN: 0671723650

When I search for the number it leads to this result:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

On that page, when I click the link to "All Editions," it leads to this:
https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

On that page, when I select the format as "Mass Market Paperback," it leads to this:
https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

When I scoll down the options n that page, the only cover that is like the copy I have, I click the lionk for it and it leads to this:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

That is the right COVER.
But the ISBN on that page has changed to a
DIFFERENT ISBN: 0671616994

That is NOT the number on my actual book that I personally own.

The book I own is the original
ISBN: 0671723650

It is the Revised Edition copyright © 1981
Published by POCKET BOOKS
a division of Simon & Schuters Inc.

First Pocket Books printing September 1982

I found a copy of the Paperback version with that correct cover and correct ISBN on AMAZON here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...

Mind oyu, the pictur on that AMAZON listing is not very great. But you can rezgniise that it is the same as shown on the other ISBN listing here:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

Can you please efix this one way or another. On my profile, I am currently using that last link to display the book I read/own. But it is not the correct ISBN as I have requested to be fixed here.

If you could fix/change/add this, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

message 2: by Elvenn (new)

Elvenn | 2730 comments The ISBN was reused for new printings. When that happens we create alternate cover editions and move the ISBN to the last edition, leaving notes in the older ones, like here -> https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

In this case it looks like the cover of the 2008 printing (still being sold) was added in the 1990 entry. It also looks like the entry for your edition is still missing a cover: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

If you link us a photo of your cover (or upload it as a profile image) we'll fix it. It would be great if you could also tell us the exact number of pages in your copy.

Elvenn | 2730 comments Hm, those aren't from How to Win Friends and Influence People...?

I've added it to your other request -> https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9...

message 5: by Mark (new)

Mark Henkel (markhenkel) | 40 comments Thank you for rightly combining this my Request #3. I don't know why my reply here ended up on the wrong request.

I can't find a place to find only my posts on GoodReads.

I appreciate you taking care of this!

Mark Henkel (markhenkel) | 40 comments Now back to the OP of THIS thread. I am sorry for confusing your instructions you gave here that I applied to another book. And I thank you for seeing through my human mistake and your fixing THAT too.

I will follow your instructions here for OP book tomorrow.

Thanks again!

message 7: by Mark (new)

Mark Henkel (markhenkel) | 40 comments Thanks (again!).

I have uploaded 4 pics for the book of the OP here,
How to Win Friends and Influence People
How to Win Friends & Influence People
by Dale Carnegie
ISBN 0671723650
Last numbererd page is 276
Ads for author's other books un-numbered page 277
(if you ADD blank side of un-numbered Page 277, then it is 278 total pages)
First Pocket Books printing 1982
22 21 20 19 18 17

The 4 pics are in my Profile under one seperate & single tag:
https://www.goodreads.com/photo/show_...

NOTE that the "AUTHOR'S AD Page" (277) includes the last digits of ISBNs for a few of the authors' others books (if that helps you for any other of his books elsewhere).

Anyway, THIS is the book cover of trhe book I own.

Thanks.

message 8: by Elvenn (new)

Elvenn | 2730 comments Great! I've added the cover -> https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... and I've left a note linking it with the last edition to use the same ISBN: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... (in this data base, the last edition keeps the ISBN).

I didn't touch the year because it's uncertain:
"First Pocket Books printing 1982
22 21 20 19 18 17"
Means it's the 16th printing.

17th, actually. And the pub date is probably about 2009, based on what we know about the cover, and one printing per year (which is reasonable, but certainly not definite). Left a Note explaining.

message 10: by Elvenn (new)

Elvenn | 2730 comments Oh, yes, 17th printing! Don't know where the 16 came from.

message 11: by rivka, Librarian Moderator (new)

Yeah, my math was wrong. But since the cover was on some other 2008 editions, 2009 still seems a better guess than most.

message 12: by Mark (last edited Aug 13, 2020 07:29AM) (new)

Mark Henkel (markhenkel) | 40 comments There is no possiblity that the book of the cover I have shown in this OP (and my pics) was published in 2009 or even 1999. I am not Dr. Who and I do not time travel (yet, anyway!). LOL

I bought, read several times, and still own this book since the extreme early 1990s, as in 1990.

Rational guess, but it is impossible considering that I got the book in early 1990s. :-)

message 14: by Mark (last edited Aug 13, 2020 07:27AM) (new)

Mark Henkel (markhenkel) | 40 comments Actually, I think I got this book in 1990, now that I think about it.

Mark Henkel (markhenkel) | 40 comments Andrew wrote: "Is the publication estimate 1982+17?

That's 1999, not 2009

(Also the 17th printing would be +16, like the 2nd printing would be +1.)"

This was a wildly popular book. It can not be in eihter of 1999 or 2009 as I got and read this book in 1990.

I appreciate your beginning work on this. Alas, it is not complete.
This is what I own and sent you pics:
https://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/...
from the group of pics I tagged here:
https://www.goodreads.com/photo/show_...
ISBN 067172365
278 pages

I see that on this page at
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
you noted at top:
Saying that
"ISBN 0671723650 moved to this(linked) edition"
leads to a page of a cover that I do NOT own.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

I do not own a book wihyt thatlast cover.

Moreover, the cover I do own and showed you was UBIQUITOUS throughout the 1980s as the well-known "famous" cover of this book.

I have never before ever seen the cover of that one to which is now linked.

I am hoping we can correct this. In order to correctly report on myh account what books I have read, then I would hope that the actual book I own and read should be the cover & ISBN shown on my profile list of books:
067172365

Since I got this in 1990, I am sure we do not want to appear to be are creating history revisonism. :-)

message 17: by Elvenn (new)

Elvenn | 2730 comments In this data base each ISBN can only be used in one edition, so it's added to the latest edition to use that ISBN (Goodreads policy).

That edition is this one -> https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

You can see that cover linked with that ISBN in different shops, as in Book Depository, for example and Abe Books and Amazon (where you can even look inside the edition and see the ISBN 0671723650 and that it's the 55th printing).

As we can only use the ISBN once, we leave notes in older printings so that users know the ISBN and that it's being used elsewhere. The ISBN is not needed to add the edition to your shelves.

--

I admit that I am a brand new member of GoodReads.

I admit that I do not know the policies here at this time either.

And I express my gratitude to you for your patience, kindness, and efforts in helping me through this confusing ordeal.

Indeed, I also declare my appreciation to you that the link was also added as one of the "here" links, in the topline in italics:
"You can find alternate cover editions for this ISBN here, here and here."

Wiht both the cover I have and the cover of the now-official ISBN both cross-linking, I can perceive how that is a necessary solution.

All I can add is that I share as feedback as a new member that this experience was disconcerting for the "new member experience." (I say that, not because of YOU, as you have been awesome in your kind heplfulness. Rather, it is the policy and confusion it created of not being able to have my cover and my ISBN together as one.) As matter of guidance for policy-reviewers, I would encourage policy-makers to re-visit the policy in terms of how it negatively impacts the "new member experience" as it did for me.

Anyway, again, thank YOU for being so helpful to me.

Thank you for passiog the KB link.

Alas, the menu-driven navigation is too time-consuming and cumbersome that it acts as a barrier for me to send any FEEDBACK to anyone. While I know that other sites do that (i.e., make forms so time-consuming/cumbersome to disincentivize use) on purpose to make people not give their feedback, although I admit that I do not know if that is the case here. I only know that, here, it is not incentivinzing to me make the effort above the effort of sharing the feedback.

I would recommend policy makers just read what I have shared here. That will go a long way to help themunderstand "new member experience." :-)

Thanks again to all who have helped me here.

Sorry Mark, staff won't read it here. We are all volunteers & have no influence on GR policy.

You can send an email support AT goodreads DOT com but especially in these Coronavirus filled times response will be slow.

Célia Pereira | 21 comments I have tried to upload my cover but it doesn't seem to do so. I somehow added another edition where the cover is now uploaded but now I have two editions. One with Cover one without.
I have tried to combined but it keeps telling me that I need two books to combined. I am a bit confused.

Here is the link to both books.
https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...
How can I get the cover to show on my author page?

1. Celia, you should start a new thread, not attach to another author's issues to avoid confusion.

2. When you add an Amazon "ebook" it is considered a Kindle Edition, and uses an ASIN. I have corrected your empty edition to match the Amazon information, and added the cover from Amazon.

3. If the other edition is an ebook available from other retail outlets, it needs to have a corrected ISBN, as the one listed is in the wrong ISBN field, and incomplete.

4. Please advise the status of this edition. It either needs to be corrected or removed as a duplicate.

Thank you.
Apologies I wasn't aware of this as this is my first time publishing.
The one without the cover appears on my author page but once you click on it, it opens up, and the cover shows. Anyway, that the one with the cover can show on my author page?
Also, yes it's a duplicate. I am unsure how to delete it and didn't want to delete the reviews, ratings and tbr.

The cover now shows on my author page. Thank you.
Is it possible to delete the second one? the one that doesn't state kindle edition? If not that is fine.
Thank you again for your help.
