Somehow, I've never read Mercedes Lackey, but have recently started following her on Quora where she debunks idiots with great wit and finesse, so have bought Arrows of the Queen to start her Valdemar series and would like to nominate that for fantasy.

The Fellowship of the Ring was just done as a BOTM, I don't believe The Two Towers has ever been done as a BOTM so that should be next.

Looking into the library, Rama II by Arthur C. Clarke is the sequel to Randez with Rama. Maybe that's what Christopher meant.
Wait, now that I think about it, I think this was a previous book. If it was, then I choose The Kingdom of Copper, which is book 2 for fantasy.
