As clean romances go Georgette Heyer is my favourite.

You have to be weilling to adapt to the slower pace and old fashioned language, that give her books the special flavour and that may be a turn-off for some, but I recommend to take the time and discover the mind set of the times described, it will help your understanding of English/European history.

On top of that her stories are full of her quirky humour.
