The book What If? Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions by Randall Munroe is the sort of book one can pick and peck at when so inclined. I'd recommend it for its celebration of curiosity and methodical thinking. In other words, the kinds of questions kids ask and the way we might answer. Though the questions are absurd and the answers practically worthless, the process of working through is a worthwhile thinking exercise.

And really, its just darn good fun. At times even lol funny.
