Thanks to BookConcierge for recommending this book. I only give a few ratings of 5 stars each year but this one really stood out. I would never have selected it because the Old West isn't generally a setting that appeals to me. But this book has so much more. The hero is literally larger than life, yet he is at the effect of the world around him. The geography of the desert, mountain and plains is a character in itself. The whole book is original in story and in method of writing. It talks about humans relationships to the natural world and each other and what it is to be human.
