Meanwhile, despite having a goal, Fable has gotten comfortable with the Marigold and the crew. I finished it yesterday! I really enjoyed it! Though, I think I will rate it 4 stars and not 5. It was super good don't get me wrong. But, one of the things that really annoyed me about the audiobook was that the narrator didn't do a very good job making the male voices distinct. Not trying to be nitpicky but it did diminish my experience. I also feel like it lived up to the hype but wasn't like an angles singing from the heavens moment that I look for in my 5 star reads.

Its super messed up that her dad left her for dead after her Mom died and he says shes safer without him towards the end. But, I don't believe it. He's a big baddy with a lot of muscle so idk why she wouldn't be safe with him. Think it's the classic "you look just like my dead spouse so I can't stand to look at you" type thing which means her dad is an ass lol (hide spoiler)]

I like her and West together too. And it felt a bit different from other books because the author had this way of making us believe that they already had some feelings for each other based on their past interactions and the part where they are making the deal and West says "I can't afford to care for anyone else" so I felt that was unique and I liked that the author didn't have to "build" the love story from scratch persay. Also the part where he kisses her when they are dreadging the treasure from the wrecked ship was so cute (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 1-11

All of my questions are basically regarding Fable's relationship with Saint. (view spoiler)[Why would a father abandon his daughter the way he did? Was it his way of trying to protect her? One of his rules was for not to tell people that she was his daughter. However, if you're going to leave your child somewhere wouldn't you want to make sure she was set up to survive without having to use the skills she's been taught?

After finding out that West's ship may be a shadow ship, it made me wonder if he already knows about Fable & Saints relationship. I guess we'll find out as we go.

I also kept wondering what made him decide to go ahead and let her have passage on his ship. He said no, but then accepted. Also, when she saw the other ship that had her father's crest, I wondered at first why she didn't just go to that ship, but then she said that he most likely wasn't on it since it was a smaller vessel, but I would have thought she would at least try to check it out.

It's going to be interesting to see what West and his crew are really up to and how their relationship with Fable will end up playing out. Plus, I'm interested in a how a reunion with her father will go. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 12-20

(view spoiler)[I guess I've spent this portion trying to figure out why West & crew wouldn't try to do everything in their power to keep someone like Fable with them.

She possesses gifts that may draw attention them, but overall would be beneficial to their success.

This world is very cutthroat though, so I guess having the attention would be worse than reaping the benefits?

Then at the end of 20 she runs into Saint, who sees her, but keeps going. Unless he is doing this for her good, he is not winning any points from me. Definitely not father of the year at this point.

I have to believe with the way that Fable remembers the love between her parents, that it's more going on than what's been revealed, because I have a hard time thinking that a man who loved a woman that way, would abandon the child they made together without a good reason.

Besides that, I wonder what West may have revealed about why he helped her if they hadn't been interrupted. I still feel like he knows more about her than he's let on and that has something to do with it. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 21-32

(view spoiler)[ I was right about what West knew. I had also been wondering about the relationship between Willa and West. I didn't think it was romantic in nature, so it came as no surprise that they are actually siblings.

I'm glad to see that someone realized that Fable should be a part of this crew and I'm glad to some tentative trust starting to form.

I'm still on the Saint is an asshole train for now. If she gets to her "inheritance" and there nothing actually there this will be upgraded. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 33-end

(view spoiler)[This ending is why people should be more truthful with the people they care about. Unless Clove faked his death, Saint should have told Fable that she needs to watch her back with him and any others that he felt were a threat to her.

As soon as she said it was him, I was shocked, but I also rolled my eyes. If you care, make me as safe as possible with knowledge that I need to survive.

Still, I enjoyed this and am looking forward to the next book in the series. (hide spoiler)]
