I really enjoyed reading these books! I'm eager for the last two to come out...not that there's any sort of time frame for those. o.OGeorge R.R. Martin definitely is an over-descriptor though. I felt it unnecessary for him to go into detail about the foods they eat throughout the books; he even had to describe the meager meals the poor characters ate. -_-
I really want to read these books, but the size holds me back (don't get me wrong lol, I love big books, but only when they're really good). I've only read books of another series that he's edited.
The size of the books is definitely daunting. When I read them I would typically skip all the descriptions and nonsense that wasn't important (like those darn food descriptions!) and really only read what was important. Once you get into them you get a knack for quickly picking out what's important based on whose point of view you're reading from.It also helped that you read from different point of views each chapter or so; I was always eager to get to my favorites so I kept going.
I read the series all at once; I figured if I was going to start it, I was in it for the long haul lol
Lol thanks for the advice! Yeah food descriptions……I really dislike those normally haha. It's good that this series only has 5 books at the moment (I'm reading the Dresden files as well and each book is bigger than the last so it's taking me ages to catch up), means it'll be easier to catch up. I definitely want to atart reading them before I watch the show.
For sure! You'll be able to make it through them. I think at the time I read them I was able to read at work all day so I got through the five of them in about a month or so. I just kept my nose in them and made it through. I love the show! It's a great adaptation; I started the show first and then started the books to get ahead of the show.
Are you enjoying the Dresden Files? It's one of my to read series, but I know there's several books and that's kind of putting me off.
The show looks awesome, I watched the first episode and with all I hear about it, it really does spur me on to read the books. So I definitely can't wait to get started on them, a good high fantasy always makes my week :D.
I love the Dresden Files. It begins a bit slow (though the mysteries in the first three books are good and smaller than the others, I didn't get hooked until book 4 or 5), but it gets reallllllyyyyyy good. I'm up to book 10 at the moment. Harry Dresden makes me laugh a lot and I think he's a pretty well developed character.

I love a good fantasy. :) You'll have to let me know what you think when you get to them!Awesome! I will hopefully get to the Dresden Files before March. I have a few books to sneak in before I start a long series lol, but I know it will help me reach my reading challenge goal! :)
I will and yep a good fantasy is always welcome! Just have a few books to knock down first before moving onto bigger books :)
Lol I almost bought the first book the other day. Seriously considered buying it, but then I ended up choosing another book (I had about five in my hands, and they all looked good haha).

Premise on GRs for A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire #1)
Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.
As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must … and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.
The old gods have no power in the south, Stark’s family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.
