Amy | 13033 comments I've been meaning to read this one for quite awhile. Its Southern, set in Appalachia. Debut novel told in concurrent characters. Kind of Olive Kitteredge-like or Maeve Binchy-like, where you get to meet everyone in the restaurant, on the bus, Italy trip, at the well. Only this town is poor - dirt poor. Like if the Creek rises, everyone is done for. Lots of domestic violence and powerless women. Interesting in a way. Worthy, but not a not to be missed.....

For those who care, this is listed as both Appalachia and Southern Gothic.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11217 comments Oh, I really miss Maeve Binchy. I think she's the reason I love to read books set in Ireland. The one with the Italy trip (I can't recall the title) was my first and probably still my favorite.

I like books with lots of interesting characters, but I'd prefer not to read about domestic violence.
