August looks at Saeva, "We have to get out of here."

"One must be slain..." Saeva mutters. "We're not all getting out of here, August. And the other two, they already left. One of us has to die. And it's obviously gonna be me."Maybe I don't understand why you can't go back, but you need to! You need to win! Once you've won, it won't matter. You'll get a victor's house--you can stay away from your father, those houses are giant! You. Need. To. Win."
"Saeva but I won't have anyone else..." she said
"Didn't you hear the freaky voice thing? One of us has to die and I'm sure not killing you! Plus, you can make more friends. You're good at making friends. Me...I'm not."
"Saeva I don't want that life I just want to be with Mark and April and you." "I don't want to be alone."
Saeva sighs and looks down at the pool, her toes at the very edge. "I don't want you to die either," she says softly. Then, she lets it all out. "I wanted to jump because I'm selfish. Because I didn't want to live in a world without you by my side because you're the only friend I've ever had. And I thought....I thought it would be easier for me if I died first, so I would never have to see you die. One or both of us is going to have to die. And I just don't want it to be you. I want you to survive. To win. To bring our memories--mine, and Mark's, and April's--on to a better life."
August nodded and wiped away tears, "I'll try."
"You'll try what?" Saeva asked gently, more gently than she's ever spoken before. She takes a step back from the edge.

Suddenly, the entire building starts to shake. Cracks spiderweb across the roof, and bits of plaster begin to fall from the ceiling. The bits of rubble get larger, covering all doors, windows, holes, and anything else that you could possibly escape through. Everyone in the building is still trapped, but large heavy things are falling from the roof with the intent to kill.
Saeva looks up and then she suddenly realizes that she doesn't want to die, at least not this way. She grabs August's hand and tries to run, but there's nowhere to run. "CARL!" she yells, hoping the rat is somewhere nearby and also sane.
(How has nobody died in this area yet? We need to get this going!)
August looks around, Saeva.. "

The rubble continues to fall and the debris grow larger in size. Still, there is no way out. Suddenly, a large wooden beam, directly above the two, makes a sickening crack and falls, intending to crush the tributes.
August pushed Saeva out of the way and backs up
"August, you need to get out. Seriously. You. Need. To. Win. Come on. I'll help you out. I'll stay behind. I'll sacrifice myself. As long as you win." YOU NEED TO WIN!" she turns around. "CARL WHERE ARE YOU???!!!!"
Tiny Carl runs in, but is immediately covered in rubble

A large piece of the roof begins to fall down right next to August. The entire building almost feels like it’s jerking side to side, and a hole starts to form in the floor. It grows quickly until it becomes a canyon across the entire room, separating the two tributes.
"AUGUST!" Saeva cries, reaching out to reach August but the gap is too big. "August, try getting through the rubble. Try getting out. August, you have to win! Please!" Saeva is crying now.
Carl crawled out from thw rubble
"Carl," Saeva said when she saw him. "Save August. Please. Please, save her. Stay with her for the rest of the games. She needs to win!"
Suddenly, a big piece of roof comes crashing down. The corner of it hits the side of Saeva's platform, taking a big chunk of it off. Both the roof piece and Saeva's platform's debris falls into the canyon, leaving Saeva's platform considerably smaller.
Saeva shrieks and looks around for something to hold onto, some way to survive. "August!" she cries. She suddenly doesn't want to die.
More and more rubble falls violently, making it hard to see. Chips of stone whip at Saeva's face and slam into her eyes, mouth and nose, making the whole situation incredibly overwhelming.
"If one of you dies the other will be set free...for now." A voice echoes through all the noise.
Saeva ducks to the ground to protect her face from the onslaught. She peers nervously up at the ceiling after a minute, looking where she imagines the voice to be. "Are you sure?" she whispers.
"If one of you die, the other will get to escape this area...but not the arena, of course. But it'll give them a chance to live." It proclaims.

Saeva is confused. Is the voice claiming that both of them will die eventually? No matter what? That neither of them even have a chance of winning the hunger games?
"If one of you die, the other will get out of the area and will be given a chance to win...."
"If none of you die soon, BOTH will die and neither will be given a chance to win. Does this make sense?"
"Yes!" Saeva says quickly. "Yes, yes it does."She takes a deep breath and rises to her feet shakily, despite the falling rocks. She looks at August across the chasm.
"August, you are the best friend I have ever had. You are strong and able and I know you don't want to win these games, but you must. I know you don't want to go back to your family, but you don't have to. Once you have won, you can do anything you want. Please. Do it for me. Win the games for me, and Mark, and April...you need to. You came here to win for April. Succeed in that goal. Please, August. Please. You need to win. Listen to these words. If you don't win...if you don't win, I will haunt you forever. Mark needs for you to win. April needs for you to win. But most of all, I need you to win. Bring fame to district five. Win, and when you do, think of me, think of Mark, think of April. Don't think of your parents. I don't know how to stress this enough, August. But you need to win."
Then she takes another deep breath, locks eyes with August for a second more, and jumps into the chasm that opened between them, hurtling to her death.
