Val (valkett) | 2 comments Hi Kris -

Some spoilers....he decides to buy a ranch and leave England after first wife's death in childbirth. He learned during her laboring that she had not been faithful and the baby was not his. Both she and the child died during delivery.

He has an older brother who is supportive and visits him twice during the course of the novel.

He meets the heroine when he arrives to town. She is not like the women he knew in England. He's very proper. She's used to managing herself and her father (and the rest of the town). She assists the town doctor and is usually the one called for during deliveries and other medical issues.
