James McIntosh | 1 comments Looking for any assist at all:

In this book there is a time "station"(?) Where time gates open on a regular basis. It is names after a hidden city (Shangri-la?) And is in the mountains. It is hinted there are other places like this.

A significant portion of the population of this place are people who have fallen through these time gates which open randomly sometimes, are then explored, and open to tourists.

One of the main protagonists is a Roman (Marcus?) whom this has happened to. He now operates as a "time guide" for people who visit the times these gates go to.
Sometimes the gates open in the air and creatures or dinosaurs etc 'fall' through.
More time gates open, he falls through, story ensues.

I believe it is a book series (but unsure). And that it explores the world from various people's viewpoints in the station (his friends who run food stalls etc).

My thanks in advance for any help at all.

A guess - Time Scout, Tales of the Time Scouts II ("... Shangri-La Station's time touring gates ...") or something else by Robert Lynn Asprin?

James, around what year did you read this book? A range of years is fine.

Ergative Absolutive | 40 comments Kris, it's got to be one of the Time Scout books. It even has a former Roman slave named Marcus who gets caught up in it.
