She's a young white girl and the scales are a family trait. There's a combination of medieval style settings (like castles) and modern technology (like cars).
There's a wedding scene where a woman wears all black instead of white. She's one of the villains.
Read between 2010-2013. The books are paperback and have drawings of scenes from the book on the cover. There are also drawings inside the books.
The books are in English and I read them in England

What age would you say these are aimed at -- 8-11, 12-14, 15-18? Is the general "feel" of the books romance or suspense or humor or...?

I'd say 8 to 11. There is some action and suspense but overall they are meant to be humorous.
